I emailed some friends, did the housework so the place looked lovely and tidy and inviting, went to the doctor for a routine blood test, sat on my deck overlooking the harbour and hills and had a cup of herbal tea, stroked the cat, went for a one hour walk up in the hills - fantastic! - read "Notes on a Scandal" sitting in the sun, made a pot of stew for tea, watched "Ripper Street" with DH, and went to bed.

BRONZE!!!

Walt Disney was right...dreams do come true...when we have the courage to pursue them. Erin Hamlin has the courage.

"It's going to take a little while to sink in," Hamlin said. "I was the first American woman to win at worlds, so to be able to do this, I'm hopefully paving the way for future generations of female lugers in the U.S."

This is the stuff that makes America great.

Please stand and cheer for Erin Hamlin from Remsen NY.

I woke up with the most wonderful guy in the world...Mr B (of Boston).
It's OK that he's a Red Sox fan. Sometimes...

We are planning a simple at home dinner for Valentines' Day. Surf and Turf.
He cooks, I provide the entertainment. The 3rd course remains a mystery.

Try to order that in a restaurant

Went to the tax man and got some very good news, both about last year and looking ahead ... seems I overestimated our taxes in retirement planning. Better that, than the opposite...

Not everyone will like this one. But I was raised on showtunes. This is from Normal As Blueberry Pie.

I'm as corny as Kansas in August.

Nellie McKay - "A Wonderful Guy" - Live at The Roxy - YouTube
I wouldn't know if I liked it or not. Couldn't understand a word she said, but the melody was OK.

Went to the gym with DW.

Took a folder of material for the tax preparer for FIL's tax return. A lot of stuff happened last year, including selling the house, donating the car to Purple Heart (it needed more in repairs than it was worth) liquidating all assets in preparation for the Medicaid application and the like. Quite a pile of documents and of course we missed a few so we'll have to mail or deliver some more.

Filled the gas tank on the snow thrower. The forecast is for about a foot of snow tonight, tomorrow, and tomorrow night.

My lower back has been seizing up for the past few days. Even walking to the grocery store is a challenge. Darn!

My computer has been doing the same thing. Have you tried rebooting?

Kidding aside, back problems can be absolutely miserable. Hope things get better soon.

Helped (a little) DW clean house, replaced two toilet seats, bought the wrong type popup sprinkler to replace a busted one, so heading back to the store to exchange and then on to the gym.

Also had a little time to play my ukulele....

Multiple rounds of snow shoveling interspersed with multiple conference calls.

Also thinking up a list of baby-making music to post in the Valentine's Day thread.

I spent the day in the kitchen with Alton Brown & Martha Stewarh .I made Alton Brown's peanut butter fudge for my SO for Valentines Day . Sinfully rich ! I then decided to use up some leftovers & make Martha Stewart's Turkey Tettrazini .It was a little labor intensive but it smells great .

DW made a chocolate cake for us. It won't last long.

Cleared snow. And then cleared some more. Did my driveway and 3 of the neighbors. Now it's snowing again. DW helped.

Made a sandwich for late lunch and then took a two-hour nap.

Sorry to hear this! Better take it easy for a while and maybe have food delivered for a few days until it feels better. IIRC in SF you can get grocery store delivery, but if not I am sure restaurants would deliver.

Seems to happen to most of us now and then, often for no logical reason.

I just tried on a pair of smaller jeans...and they fit! ...and they don't cut my circulation off!

I hope I'm not the only one with several pairs of jeans in different sizes.
