Friday I do water kick boxing and then we all go out for lunch so any calories we burned are soon replaced . It's a great fun group of women and we laugh ourselves silly . I'm so glad I found this group . It's just the right amount of socializing for me .

I enjoyed my first day out on my screened (openings still have plexiglas panels in place) porch and did some yard reconaissance.
5 purple crocus are actually blooming. Aaaaahhhhhhhhh
My indoor green thumb is out in full force.
I planted some Black-Eyed Susan vine seeds for indoor sprouting. My 2 orange canna bulbs are up and loving the bright sunshine in the front window.
Once my latest tiny crop of Romaine matures a little more, I will be planting Cubanelle pepper seeds in the 10 gal aquarium setup.
I assembled my Macrodome mushroom kit. I am awaiting the proper humidity to build up inside before I add the innoculated dowels (Shiitake mushroom first, then Oyster for the second batch) and colonizing/fruiting medium. Pics will be posted when it's all put together.

I made bread. Tastes good, but only had one loaf pan, so had to use two 13x9 cake pans for the rest of the dough. I skipped a part of the recipe after kneading the dough to put it back into the bowel and let it rise again...so needless to say, I had some short bread. Also, taking DW out to celebrate our anniversary, gotta recover from the oops its our anniversary morning...

I cleaned up 6 more gardens here today! Only have 8 more 9 more to go, and then everything will be done and ready for the growing season!!! I had already prepped 11 gardens earlier this week!

I like gardens so much, I'm definitely putting in 3 more this year...and possibly a 4th one if I still have energy after I finish everything else.....if not this year, that 4th one will be a priority for next year! It's going to be a 50' long by 5' wide shade garden on the north side of the house, which is the ONLY area of the property that doesn't have anything growing other than the lawn!

Life is GREAT.....with more gardens and less lawn!!!

I had a wonderful bike ride. Sunny and warm -- I can't describe how enjoyable it was. I saw a car exactly like this one, and met a couple who is riding from Argentina to Alaska. They started in Jan, 2009. I'm bummed that I can't remember their web site address.

Had today off. Planned a big night of thai cooking at home. I made beef with basil and also made pad thai from scratch for the first time. (Well, I tried it once before, but I didn't have all the right ingredients, so I'm not counting that, LOL.)

I was so excited that the pad thai came out great! It does require lots of oil, though, to taste this good.

I attended a reunion/retiree luncheon today. Mostly I was curious to see who else might attend. It was an interesting experience and I got to chat with several people who retired several years ago. I also won a door prize and came home with a bottle of wine, Fermenting Friends which is made by a retired employee of my former Megagov agency.

Retirement is good and the Spring flowers are just beautiful with the daffodils and hyacinth providing lots of pretty color.

I put up some new bluebird nest boxes at the local state park. A little band of about 6 of us monitor 80 or so nest boxes. I recently pulled in another sucker volunteer and created a new area for her to monitor. It will soon be time to evict the field mice and get on with the breeding season.

This is more like "what I did yesterday". Had laser repair on a small tear on my retina. I had a regular eye exam yesterday morning after my complaining of flashes of light, etc. Doctor made an appointment for retina specialist for yesterday afternoon. After regular eye appointment, ordered new glasses then drove to retina specialist.

I had no idea they would do the repair right then and there. So, after two hours and the laser surgery, with a bandage on my eye I couldn't drive home.

Fortunately, it was close to 5:00 o'clock by that time and I was able to get DD to come pick me up. My car is still at the doctor's office.

Anyway, that day is over and now a new one and I'm feeling much better now.

Yesterday, I did more bike shop looking and found a bottle holder that will work and the big thing was a set of small panniers and front bag. My bike is now ready and tricked out with everything it need for my bike patrol gig. Amazing how much little stuff a bike needs. I have a couple of new friends to patrol with lined up. Now, if only my knee would stop hurting...

On the way home, I stopped on a whim to see an old friend I hadn't seen since I retired and had a lovely visit. Then I mounted my purchases and spent the evening compiling a list of all the places on the canal. Various lists didn't have them all.

Today is honey-do day.
First on the agenda is dh2b's w*rk clothes laundry detail, then out in the yard for the annual pickup detail.
Hint: I have 2 dogs. Anybody want pictures?

UPDATE: We blew off the yard pickup detail. Laundry and homemade pumpkin pie won the day's chore selection battle.

Happy2bretired, I am so HAPPY for you!! My grandfather was totally blind (white cane and all) for the last half of his life due to retinal detachments which occurred during cataract surgery in the 1940's. The only way he could earn a living after that was as a candy stand operator at the city hall, a job he got as a charity through the Lion's Club. The last half of his life was pretty dismal due to his total blindness. He never even got to see his grandchildren as they grew, which caused him great sadness.

When the laser surgery became available on an experimental basis in the early 1960's, he had it but by then apparently his optic nerves had degenerated due to disuse so it was to no avail. Several of the men on that side of my family have had retinal detachments as well, but like you they had the laser surgery immediately. Believe me - - that laser surgery is a godsend!! I am SO HAPPY for you! And I am so glad that it was diagnosed before the tear or tears got too bad to repair.

I knew there was a reason that I trained the St Bernard to go in the field behind the barn.

W2R, thank you...I'm glad that's over. It was only a small tear, not a detachment, thank goodness. It really has me thinking about my old age though. Thinking more about long term care insurance. I hate to spend the $$ on it but with my hearing problem and what could be a vision problem in the future...really makes you think a little.

After having a week of nice weather, sunshine, and fresh air...and goofing off on the patio and cleaning up the gardens.....Today it was raining and snowing, and not a great day to be outside, so I wasn't a bit disappointed to sit indoors at the local College for a class on Spring Gardening!!!

Life is GREAT...even as I greeted Spring's arrival at 12:32 p.m. today while driving home in the snow!!!

I'm in Germany on business. Today was a free day in Cologne. Began by taking the tram to the Rhine (1.60 Euros) and spending 90 minutes at the Chocolate Museum (7.50 Euros) which has two actual production lines. It was so reminiscent of the old I Love Lucy episode! Lots of fun. Did you know you can buy Chocolate Beer and Wasabi Chocolate?

Next, off to the famous Cologne Cathedral - it's quite amazing that it survived the WW2 bombing. An inspiring work of art that took 500 years to build. Next, lunch (sausages, beer) followed by an impulse call at the Philharmonic, which led to a delightful chamber music concert on a rainy afternoon for 12 Euros. Just the ticket! Unfortunately the shops were closed when the concert let out. Back to the hotel, then dinner with friends. Gemutlich!

A great day all around!
