Up early to play golf. Had a good round today. Did errands. Cleaned house. Watched a classic movie on YouTube (Of Human Bondage, 1933, with Leslie Howard and Bette Davis). It's still good!

My husband and I met his niece and her two children, one was just borned recently, at a local coffee place. Afterwards we walked to a nice playground, lovely children, close enough to know what it likes to have grand children. But the best part is we three, husband, me, and SIL will get VIP concert tickets to a band, thanks to my niece's husband and his connections. Life is grand. I just hope I don't fall asleep at this concert like I did at a Sade's concert a few years back.

Went out to lunch with DW to a steak place, the first time since the fall 2 1/2 weeks ago that I've been able to sit still long enough. Always before my foot pain increased so that I had to get up and walk around a bit in 15-20 minutes. All that walking is paying off.

Received an email from Horizon Hobbies that the R/C helicopter that I sent in for repair had a bad gimbal in the transmitter causing the servo to "jump" and they replaced the transmitter under warranty. It wasn't my fault after all!

Saturday night it rained hard, and since we were at our cabin in the woods, the tin roof made a bit of noise. It stopped around 5 am, and we were fixing breakfast with some friends nearby. I was delivering the toast and eggs and DW was bringing over some jams when there was a crash and DW screamed. The wooden steps had gotten slick and she fell. A trip to the Urgent Care office (on Sunday on Memorial Day Weekend), and the Dr looks at the ankle, takes a bunch of x-rays, gives her a prescription for hydrocodone and tells her that he will get an appointment at the top foot and ankle surgeon in town on Tuesday. The leg was broken at the ankle! Tuesday (she has been in pain starting 3 hours after she gets a dose of the drugs until she gets the next one) the orthopedic surgeon calls and schedules her for Friday appointment .

Now it turns out that there are 2 breaks, and she will have surgery on Tuesday and 2 plates put in her leg! Now she is looking at a summer in NC with high heat, high humidity and not swimming! I have been caring for her, which I gladly due (for better or worse and all that), but in 10 minutes, the room goes from freezing to sweltering and back to freezing; thirsty, but not water, not that juice the other one; I want to get up, but I want to lay down in the back!

As long as this is the worse part and not the for better part I can continue for another few weeks.

I'm sure my DW can relate. Last March I had painful complications from a cardiac ablation that lasted about a month. No sooner do I recover from that than I take a bad fall in the garage that keeps me in constant pain for the next two 1/2 weeks. Still going on but I'm off the pain-killers now so it's tolerable. Pure luck that I didn't break any bones.

She was going stir-crazy taking care of the "sick, lame and lazy" husband, hence the importance of the steak lunch today.

Wishing the best recovery for your DW and she will appreciate you looking after her.

Thanks Walt. I'm home with her 24/7 and at times I just need a break. She was a nurse before the kids, so she knows more than the Dr about what to do. The only worse patients than nurses are doctors!

You have my sympathy Taxman. DW fell about 8 years ago and broke her fibia, tibia and some ankle bones. Surgery by an orthopedic specialist to put humpty dumpty back together with plates and screws... recovery, PT and then the metal was uncomfortable to her so she had a follow-on surgery to take out the plates and screws and another round of recovery and PT.

Wow Taxman, your DW took a nasty fall. Hope she recovers quickly and breezes through therapy. It takes a while to recover fully from a broken ankle, let alone 2 breaks and surgery with plates. I had a broken ankle and the PT was rough. I think it's due to the amount of down time before you're ready for therapy.

Up at 1:00 AM because, jet lag. (Just home from six weeks in Europe, four of which were on a river cruise). Goes with the turf, so I do my best to just roll with it, knowing it will pass. Passed the time from 1:00 AM to 5:00 AM, my normal natural wake up time, perusing my favorite blogs and forums.

Worked on the laundry from our trip (so much laundry!), did 60 minutes of stair climbing at the gym, then a bunch of errands and appointments to play catch up after our time away.

Tonight we are eating in, opening a bottle of wine, catching up on some TV shows and doing whatever we need to avoid the temptation to fall into bed immediately after dinner. It's going to be a rough few days.

We had a retirement club activity planned for early today but slept in instead. I guess we are not fully on senior citizen time quite yet.

We ended up trying a new barbecue restaurant for lunch and then in the evening went to the planetarium. We saw two laser light shows, one with Pink Floyd music and one with U2 music, had wine on the patio under the Redwoods and saw a planetarium show with their newly repaired and resurrected Zeiss projector. It was a nice evening. We hadn't been to a laser show in many years so that was a fun change of pace.

On Thursday I went to a minor league baseball game...I'm not a huge fan, but a group of about 70 people from w*rk were going as a tribute to a former co-w*rker who passed away in January. About 45 of them are retired (including myself), so it was a good chance to catch up with some people that I hadn't seen in a while.

The fellow that had passed started the tradition of going to the ball games about 20 years ago. Most folks would meet at a local watering hole about a mile from the ballpark and walk to the game. The main walkway outside the stadium is interlocking stones, and for a donation to charity, you can have a stone with someone's name laid down. The group met around the new stone in his honour for a moment of silence and then we proceeded inside to watch the game and enjoy a few pops and concessions.

I have washed rock coming on Tuesday to get the basement ready to pour concrete. I am leveling the base to 12 inches below the final concrete floor. Leveling a decomposed granite grade is not easy. Surface varies from 2 inches high to 2 inches low. I'll be swinging a pick for the next couple of days. Then on to moving about 15 tons of rock. Maybe I can get a couple of kids to help with the rock.

#200, but the blood banks don't talk to each other, so no kudos.

I went to an Italian restaurant, meeting with my husband's nephew and his pregnant wife and SIL, boy that was the best tasting food I've had so far. Too many restaurants here and the quality of food is very high. Vegetables are so tasty.
I've been eating non stop, well almost.

Went to my favorite Vietnamese restaurant with a friend for lunch. Put up with more rain this afternoon. The rain is getting old and the flooding getting tiresome.
