We were feeling lucky so we used a free Chipotle coupon that came in the mail for dinner. Other than that kind of a routine day - dentist appointment, Costco and some event planning for the weekend.

Hill Farmstead Brewery, a very highly rated craft brewer near to us and I have visited them a few times and had some of their brews but many of the highly rated craft brews that aficionados rave about are too hoppy for me to enjoy.

OTOH, DD bought me a case of Heady Topper (also 100 out of 100 on Beer Advocate) a couple years ago for Father's Day and while I wasn't keen on the first one that I drank it was there in the fridge so I would have one every so often and I grew to like it. Only one at a time though at 16 oz and 8% ABV... but one makes me happy.

Yes, the beer really is as good as claimed, but I think you have to be somewhat of a connoisseur to really appreciate its complexity. The casual beer drinker, or those who don't like stronger flavors wouldn't enjoy it. I bring a few bottles home with me from every trip to Belgium, and save them for special occasions.

Your news is worth celebrating, but I think I see a "17" on that cap, meaning, it would have been better if aged some more. That's just the beer snob in me talking

I've got a few in that general vintage that I'm saving, but who knows, if I get some good news like yours, I might have to crack one before it's time.

But I beg to differ. I've had plenty of experience with this beer, everywhere from a week after release up to 8 years later. I was a bit surprised to find that the fresh stuff was every bit as good as the aged. It changes continually and is always different, but "better" is not a word I would use. Great at any age.

You're right. "Better" is not it, since that's in the eye of the beholder. I tend to like the melding that goes on after some age. They can get too old, but I'm usually not that patient! I had a fresh St Bernardus abt 12 recently and really enjoyed that as a way to spare a westy. But then again, I had nothing specific to celebrate.

Walked the pooch on the beach. DH joined me, which was nice. It was low tide so I was able to walk further south than I have recently... but even at low tide I could not get in front of the mansions to the north of where I park... so I walked on the street side of the mansions.

It appears the winter/el niño storms, combined with extreme sand erosion have started undermining the sea walls in front of these deca-million dollar homes. I know of the family (cough cough Qualcomm founder and his kids) that owns three of them - I think they can afford the repairs. But the sand erosion etc definitely impacts my preferred walk route.

After that I went to the free senior water aerobics. It was a nice workout without any sweat. (I feel it in my arms - so I know I did some work out.)

Now I'm home trying to coerce/entice my kids into doing their chores/homework/piano practice... Oh joy.

Power went out at noon. The battery on my laptop ran down after five hours. That's when I finally gave up waiting and cranked up the portable generator.

Yep, five minutes later the power came back on.

Got a call confirming my 3 PM dental implant surgery. Only one problem - - the appointment card I had been given said it was to be at 1:30 on March 24th. So, I had no idea. Nothing like surprise surgery to shake up one's day.

Anyway, all went well and thanks to the usual medications before, during and after, I am feeling no pain. The winds are kicking up and the rain has just started. It is nice to be back home, safe, warm, and dry, and to have this behind me.

Just sitting here waiting for the storm. So far it has not hit us very hard but tomorrow we are supposed to have severe weather. Schools, university, government offices, and many businesses are closed until Monday due to the forecasted flooding and storms.

Thinking about Walt34's five pound chocolate bar (although he still hasn't bitten on the ten pounder, which is obviously twice as good), and then DW comes home from the store today with this. She said it had my name on it. About the only possible improvement I can see would be if it were dark chocolate instead of milk, but hey, what's not to like about bacon flavored chocolate?

Wow, the things I learn about here!

I'm thinking about that ten-pounder chocolate bar for Easter, when most years there is a large family gathering. It seems fitting, given all the other candy the grandnieces will be having. if there is a gathering I can just picture the jaws dropping when I walk in carrying that thing.

We drove into the city last night to see the play Beach Blanket Babylon. We really enjoyed that. It was a pretty drive seeing the city lights and the new bridge all lit up at night. I used Parking Panda for the first time. That worked out well. It is tough finding parking otherwise so it was great to be able to reserve a spot from home.

Today I had ink cartridges refilled at Costco for the first time. I usually get the $2 off brand cartridges from Amazon but they did not have ones to fit DH's printer so I'm trying the Costco refill. Other than that I did a little part-time work, did some errands and bought a mushroom farm.

Got a haircut this morning and then took the young wife out to lunch. After lunch, we stopped in the Goodwill and I got a couple of records. Right now, I'm listening to Jimmy Buffett's Living and Dying in 3/4 Time .

A great day...
The new Salvation Army Store opened a few moths ago, in the old Kmart building. Today I struck gold.

Being as how our 96 SLS and 98 Town Car have cassette players in addition to the DVD players, a recent donation of hundreds of cassettes was welcome. Almost all 1940's to 1960's Western music... So now, @ $.10 each, for $7, I have a full library of the music I grew up with....
Roy Acuff, Chet Atkins, Ernest Tubb, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Hank Williams, Tammy Wynette, Kitty Wells, and many, many more.

Rememberin' back to the days when we bought $.10 lyrics magazines, and memorized the words and chords so we could entertain with our uke/guitar group at the Camp Westwood YMCA camp, where my buddies and I were counselors for four whole summers in the early 1950's.
