We had our first real snow for the season this morning. No wind and big flakes made a very pretty snow. Probably about 1.5 inches. Its all gone now. Supposed to warm up for the rest of the week. Back to shoveling dirt, etc.

It is close to peak foliage here in the Northeast Kingdom. Neat drone footage taken a couple days ago is a unique perspective. It is best if you enlarge to fill your screen.

Thanks, reminds me of my years at home in Connecticut. The only colors around here are of green pine trees and stained concrete.

Did some regularly scheduled maintenance on my Civic (oil change, transmission fluid, air filters, rotate tires, etc.). 232k miles and still going strong. I'm hoping to hit 300k about 2-1/2 years from now.

We watched the Blue Angels perform over the SF Bay from the top of a hill in the U.C. Berkeley Gardens. It is not the closest viewing spot but we've watched them before so didn't want to battle the traffic in the city today for a closer view. It was a bit hot for October but otherwise a nice, sunny day. We took a tour around the gardens afterward and then in the evening we went to see a community theater play.

Got my "Dear John" letter from Humana, breaking up with me. They're still very anxious to offer Medicare coverage to DW, so it's not like they're leaving or anything. Just choosing DW over me. I feel like I came in second in a two-person popularity contest. 
The mail yesterday also brought a Christmas flyer ad. It's mid-October and the leaves are still green and on the trees. Is Columbus day the new start of the holiday season? I sure hope not.

Mixed up a new batch of Castile soap and put it in molds (old cigar boxes lined with plastic wrap). I'll un-mold and cut it on Tuesday. Then it will dry in the garage for about the next six months until our current batch gets used up.

Ran my first (and likely last) full marathon today. just under 4 hours.
Half marathons from now on, mainly because the training is easier.
Its been an interesting journey, from losing 40 lbs a couple years ago, and having such bad knees that a long walk hurt. Thanks to this forum for the concept 2 rowing reviews. Put on about 500,000 meters to get in shape, and my legs strengthened enough to be able to run.

Hearty congratulations, naggz!
Running a marathon, including "one and done" is a major life achievement and you can take great pride in it.
I did my first one at the age of 58, and was enough of a glutton for punishment that I did two more. The next two were at progressively slower paces, and I finally gave up after my third. Half marathons are more fun anyway!

On plane with DW headed home after escaping from Charleston just ahead of Matthew (hotel closed & made us leave), to Charlotte where we had to contend with 1,000s of NASCAR fans.
Very lucky, didn't get engulfed by either.

Today I practiced retirement, since it was a holiday for me but not most people. It was a clear, crisp fall day, so I went to the outdoor range in the morning. On the way home, I bought a new Springfield M1A. Then I went to the Indian grocery to pick up some turmeric for the young wife (it is way cheaper there). Went to the auto parts store to return my used motor oil and pick up some new wiper blades. I just washed the car and did the steel wool and Rainex trick on the windshield. I also polished the plastic headlight covers.
There is much more to be done, and w*rk just gets in the way.

I don't know - - the range and buying the Springfield M1A sounds like a good start in simulating retirement, but after that the Indian grocery, the auto parts store, washing the car, and polishing the headlight covers, all sounds like w*rk to me.
That's one of the things I really like about my retirement. No longer is the majority of my free time occupied by the necessities of life such as shopping, cleaning, and so on. Sure, I have to do some of that now and then, but most of the time I can actually kick back and do whatever I want to do.

Angel Flight
Today we flew a 7 year old girl and her mother from Santa Monica to Paso Robles. We transferred them to another Angel Flight pilot who flew them the rest of the way home in the Bay Area
