After work going to a craft brew tasting room that's a block from work for some beer with the work crowd. I skipped the formal lunch since those tend to be less conducive to actual conversation... hence the beer gathering.

The water behind the refrigerator turned out to be the tubing on the outlet side of the solenoid-controlled valve to admit water to the icemaker. It had a hard turn in it that caused a crack in the tubing.

~5.5 feet of 1/4" vynil tubing and a hose clamp all for $3.89 and all fixed. And I left a more generous amount of tubing in the turn to widen the radius.

Congrats!

A place I worked started the work week on Friday and ended it on Thursday. So, new hires came in on Friday, and retirees left on Thursday. It appears your work place has the same schedule.

Not quite like that. I've worked PT since my eldest was born. First at 3 days/week... then for 4 days a week for the past 12 years. (A job transfer made me increase by 1day/week.)

So many folks have asked why my last day is Thursday and I just respond, laughing, with "I wasn't working Fridays before - why would I start now that I've given notice?".

I have about 2 hours till I walk over to the beer tasting room down the street. I actually did some work and troubleshooting a setup today - but I think I'm officially done now. So I'm checking emails and checking in here. My final paycheck arrived at home by fedex this morning... :)
 
Received a shipment of smoked fish, and a mango from Florida.

I bought some TIPS at today's auction, we went for a couple of walks, had evening sherry on the patio and had some good bargain hunting (meat for the rest of the month at half price, assorted free electronics for product reviews, and dog food on sale). DH swapped out our own modem for one from the cable company which will save $8 a month rental charge, or $960 over ten years.

I made chicken in a pot in my thermal cooker since it was hot outside to avoid heating up the kitchen. I'll use the stock for home made soup tomorrow.

Today: First day of freedom.
Slept in till 7am (normally the alarm goes off at 5:40am)
Puttered around the house - then did a costco run.
Reviewed the COBRA paperwork - realized they forgot to include medical. Called them. They are sending me new paperwork in today's mail. (Turns out they don't deal with employees who have Kaiser very often - so my company was supposed to send special info if I have Kaiser (which I do.)

Then I went online to price what I could get at Kaiser directly, non-COBRA. Definitely will be going COBRA through the end of the year. (HR already told me my premium.) The prices are higher, for less coverage if I buy directly. (We should qualify for subsidies next year - but too much income this year.)

Hubby is off depositing my final paycheck and final PTO payout as I type this. It arrived as paper checks, via Fedex, yesterday.

Who knew there was so much to do as a retired person. LOL.
 
I love reading this thread a couple of times a week. Today I sat through a two hour conference call discussing how to charge customer freight as part of an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) integration of two businesses. Reading the fun/interesting/important things others did keeps the hope alive!

That's two hours of my life I"ll never get back...

Wow, that would put me to sleep in about fifteen minutes. Probably less.

I read a book about picture framing and mowed the grass.
 
Spent the morning giving my brother a hard time on FB lol. Going to a reunion today for my high school (church) youth group. Don't know why I thought that was a neat idea when I agreed to attend. Haven't seen any of these people since 1974. Won't even know about two thirds of them, who joined after I left. Oh well. Free fried chicken. Just hope they don't expect me to sit around for an hour singing Kumbayah...

Try doing all that from Alaska, by phone and email, and trying to find a notary and a place to fax documents from Tok, as well as set up financial accounts and transfer large sums from retirement to investment accounts... Lol

I retired, BTW, in Ohio. Just couldn't wait to get out of town after retiring...
 
DW and I are sitting on a blanket in a lovely neighbourhood park enjoying the sun and some excellent hummus.

I'm also reading "The Joy of Not Working" by Ernie Zelinski. Getting geared up for ER!
 
Slept in until 11:30. Unusual, but not unheard of.

Read some more about picture framing and matting. After gym, went to Michael's craft store to see what they had there for framing materials. Not much, finished frames only and two colors of matting board, black and white, and those are precut.
 
Bought pickling/canning salt and 40 whole cloves to use in making watermelon rind pickles. The smell of the cloves in my kitchen has sent me to my happy place.
 
Never knew of watermelon rind pickles, so I looked on the Web. Indeed, it is edible but after the outer green layer is peeled off. It is then boiled before pickled. I have pickled onions and other vegetables, and will have to try this.
