Opposite sides of the island but they might as well be hemispheres apart. I really like Poipu.

I used to pay $4.25 for 18 holes at Murrysville Golf Course in 1976. Then I got a job there and golfed for $4.25/hour free.

Spouse and I owned a condo in Pacific Grove (right next to Pebble Beach) in the late 1980s. We sold it to a couple who were building their "dream downsize retirement home" on 17-Mile Drive. As an architect he felt obligated to honor his clients by joining both the Pebble Beach and the Spyglass clubs, and they took me to lunch at the latter. He casually mentioned that the membership fees had been around $50K. Each.

Of course I got to play with my best friend, as well as Harmon Killebrew, and Rhyne Duren (for you old baseball fans out there). Great foursome, great day, great cause, crappy golf on my part.
That's one of the really good courses and Harmon is a pretty terrific guy and Twin..I remember watching Ryne Duren when he was a Yankee...noted fastballer (was he wearing really thick eyeglasses? - He was known for his fastball pitching, but also noted for his very poor vision and thick glasses -he was rumored to have hit a player waiting in the on-deck circle, supposedly because he could not see which way to throw to home plate.) He's also noted for conquering alcoholism.

As far how much I've paid for golf - it would be against my religion (Frugalism) to pay more than $35 a round....right now I have a patron card for the Minneapolis public courses - so it averages out to about $24 a round...

Some great responses.....
DH has paid $100+ to play at Kapalua Plantation Course, Troon Talon, We-ko-pa (not worth it). Usually plays Muni courses, but treats himself occasionally. Would love to play some of the classics (Pebble Beach), but not sure he could stomach more than $200.

Hey Nords,
When I was just a lad - in the seventies - I went to Murrysville Golf Course with my Dad and his friend. I was just walking around - not golfing - as my Dad wanted to introduce me to the game. A course ranger came and threw me off the course - saying I had to have clubs to be on the course - I had to wait for 4+ hours by the car while my Dad finished his round. Not fun.

One question - Why did you throw me off the course?

Aw, I never had to throw anyone off the course, that's my story and I'm stickin' to it!

I bet it was Caton (the elderly Scot who did most of the ranger work) or Andy Oslosky, my old boss. And from what I remember of their lifestyles, I think the coast is clear now.

Too bad we didn't get together sooner about that long wait in the parking lot. I could've introduced you to the girl (a year ahead of me in high school) who had a copy of the key to the beer locker. I'd go back to visit the course but I'm afraid of what & who I'd see...
