Retired Feb 2010 at age 35.

However, after 6 months of doing no paid work, the missus and I started a small business doing freelance project work. I now think of my situation as early semi-retirement, or even just a mid-life career change. Maybe after 10 tough (but lucrative!) years in IT I was just ready to work for myself for a change.

If we didn't have the business income, we could meet expenses with a .7% annual withdrawal from our paper assets. It's amazing how much easier it is to retire in a country with nationalized health insurance (in my case, Taiwan).

Yesterday was my big day! Retired November 22, 2010 at 32. I'm a bit nervous about it, and a lot of people still don't understand even though I've been talking about this and planning it for many years. This site has been very helpful though with all the good stories and encouragement! Thanks everyone!

Wow! Real impressive. Congrats! I don't think I heard or ER when I was 32 - I remember at that age I was starting a new career.

Congrats to all the newer folks on the list.
This class is really growing.
I thought I was the luckiest guy on the planet when I got on the list the first of this year.
Never realized how many fortunate people had that same big smile on their faces.

You sound like me.
My last day to actually work was Dec 17 2009. The paper work said Jan. 1, 2010.
Mentally I was gone way before that though. In more ways than one.

I'm with you on that. My last day at work was Jan 26, but I had to go into work on March 1st to make 25 years and get an extra 5 days vacation (paid in $). The following day DW and I went in to complete the paperwork, get the clock and the gift certificate, and leave town.
