We recently purchased our 2-bedroom condo in Prescott, AZ in the beginning of April, getting a fantastic bargain in a depressed housing market. We couldn't be happier. Our home here in central MA went up for sale about 3 weeks ago and we landed a solid offer in 5 days! Closing papers will be signed on June 24th and we will be packed and headed off for the 4-5 day drive across the country.

FIRE away!

More and more people are moving to Arizona! Weren't they warned that AZ is just as bad a place to live in as Texas? There was a candid post about the hazards of living in these terrible parts. See THIS.

PS. By the way, to be truthful, AZ is a bit better than Texas because the latter now has pirates. Yes, PIRATES just like in the Caribbean!

Last day at work...Friday July 2nd! 47 and for the first time yesterday, I had to use my wife's readers to read some fine print up close My DW laughed at me for 10 minutes over me needing readers! So perfect timing!

Me, me, me! Last week, I was told that my work contract won't be renewed at the end of the month and, after running a bunch of simulations over the weekend, it looks like I won't have to look very hard for another job after all. Since DW will still be working full time for a couple more years, I won't call myself "retired" but rather "unemployed" for now.

Today is DH's last day - so tomorrow is the official first day of ER. Since I got my last unemployment check last week (unless they pass the extension next week), I guess that it's really official.

We went and bought the new truck over the weekend (he's had a company car for 30 years!) and we bought his new laptop last week. I told him he's taken half of our first year's budget already - he has to stop!

The house goes on the market next week - then we wait and see what happens. In this market, who knows!

I'm delighted to announce that I am also now officially retired, as of July 1.

I spent 3 days cooking for our 22nd annual 4th O' July BBQ, so it didn't feel like I was retired until I slept late on the 6th, then went on a nice 25 mi. bike ride on the Burke-Gilman trail.
