The FIRE/ESR class of 2010 seems to be particularly large.

So that we can get the ceremony organized while Pomp and Circumstance is heard in the background, let's get the class roster out in the open. Class of 2010 (declared or confident of a 2010 escape) please raise your hands. I'll get things started with just a few names:

Alan
Chinaco
Rich_in_Tampa
W2R

Maybe just cut and paste the most recent list into your post and add your own name at the bottom.

I think there was some pent up demand due to the recession.

Good idea Rich, I think it is quite a few already but can't remember any names.

I think W2R retired in November, 2009.

Yes, I retired last year on November 9th, 2009 - - soon it will be my 5 month anniversary ("retire-a-versary"?).

So, the list is:

Alan
Chemist
Chinaco
Rich_in_Tampa

Way to go, Chemist. Your profile says 2011 -- looks like you've made up some lost ground.

I escaped at the end of February, 2010. Still catching up on my sleep and rediscovering how people are SUPPOSED to live.

Haven't completely adjusted to the lack of stress, though...seems like there's something missing. I'm sure I'll get over it soon.

I'm studying hard. Not ready for my name to be added to the list yet, but I'm kicking around a 9/30/2010 ER date in my head and on paper.

Step 1 was taken a couple weeks ago, when I exercised all remaining vested stock options to lock in on what looked like a good price. I'm not even sure what step 2 will/should be, though I guess I started it when I took another look at ehealthinsurance.com. That's looking uglier than it did a couple years ago. I've done all of the pre-reqs I can think of, like the retirement budget, part-time hours and reduced responsibility, having a plan for things I want to do (as if my time being bolted to my desk chair will be hard to fill), etc.

The numbers all work, but I'd rather have more buffer. For years I've been enjoying not having to worry about money, and when I started thinking very seriously about this I started getting nervous again. On the priority scale, money stress ranks more important to avoid than getting out of my part-time, flex hour telecommuting job. When I told myself not to decide yet, the stress level went back down.

Maybe I should start my own thread on this, but I want to make the decision myself, not be talked into it.

I'll enjoy this thread a lot more once our kid is done with all her high-school pressure coercion outright threats graduation rehearsals...

Looking forward to hearing about your travel plans to the Mainland in all kinds of weather.

Congratulations, 2010'ers.

Depends... what do you mean by 2010? Calendar year or school year? If it is School year, I am on the cusp (mid 2011).

If it is calendar year... I am a Junior. I will graduate next year.

I was thinking calendar year 2010. I must have misinterpreted one of your recent posts about the timing of your FIRE. So maybe we should delete you from the 2010 list and look forward to adding you when a 2011 class emerges?

In all fairness, though, from the list that's emerging the 2010 graduation party should be a winner...

I have corrected my profile!

Yeah my wife wanted me to stay on until Jan 2011 so as to vest some stock options and get 5 weeks vacation pay - but I couldn't take it anymore. Plus the bull market run has been very very good to me.

I turn 55 in July but am staying on one more month so as to max out the 401(k) $16,500 plus $5500 catch up contributions.

July 4th, 2010 here. ESR. I don't know about everyone else, but around here there is an attitude of get out while the gettin's good. I work for the State and we are already on furloughs and the state is projecting a 3.4 billion deficit for the next biennium. Retirees are usually not touched since the pension fund is protected from being raided, so people who can go are going.
