I'm indeed sad. I'm in a position now where I'm able to put a lot of cash in the market each month. It worked gangbusters in 2011, especially pre-October 2011. Now, not so great.

if the market just went up in odd years and down in even ones... I could really make a killing. Any chance of that being set up for me for the next decade?

Psychologically, yes, I get a rush when it goes up. I have this silly thought that dividends will follow, which is what makes me happy. Capital gains will just be a bonus for me. Not counted on, but always appreciated.

On the downside, I like to buy cheap and stuff is not as cheap as it used to be.
