Yeah, my SAT score (taken in 1982, but I digress) qualifies me but I've never had any interest in it. I have friends who are members who have encouraged me but something about the old Groucho Marx quote about joining any group who would have me comes to mind...

I had a friend/co-worker who thought he was smarter than his boss and he would correct him or "recommend" ideas to him. A lot of times, my friend was right but there clearly was a divide between him and his boss. Boss had a job insecurity issue. My friend had some areas of improvement as well but the boss took those out of portion and made it seem like those are huge issues. Eventually, my friend got a different job b/c he was afraid of getting fired. In his current job, boss is much more accepting of new ideas and error correction suggestions so he's thriving. Boss doesn't have job insecurity issue.

+1

I went to a Mensa meeting in 1968, because a new boyfriend at that time who was a member thought I should join. I thought it was absolutely awful. Perhaps it was just that chapter. At any rate, I have never seen such inflated self-opinions with little to no basis. Nobody had anything interesting to say, but the BS was flying high. I never went back. So yeah, that Groucho Marx statement comes to mind...

Old-time board member John Galt claimed to be in Mensa. If I'd been in that group when he made his revelation, I would've burned my membership card.
