Preparing for a second career for a lawyer

I ran across this thread recently (http://www.early-retirement.org/foru...yer-18661.html) which discussed the "second career for a lawyer," and some ideas included legal writing, mediator, tax preparer, etc.

Going off of those ideas, what types of skills should young lawyers try to obtain in order for a second career? For "second career," I'm defining that term as legal-related work outside of a law firm or company's legal department. For instance, one could do pro bono tax preparation to prepare themselves for a tax-related career later on.

Thanks to all!

I see a growth industry in Veteran claim appeals and SS. With the VA getting 10K new PTSD claims alone each month there is going to be a huge need to people that can navigate the VA system and the various federal programs. Many of these Vets need help and don't even know it.
