I always thought that in retirement, you had more time to investigate costs and budget. Also, your house is paid off, kids are gone and on their own (hopefully). Also after 65 you get a lot of health care freebies that many dont have from an employer. I think the biggest cost that I always thought about was travel (if you want go on a lot of trips).
