Trying to get to 300k - Milestone approaching
We've been bouncing around 297-298 in the portfolio this week.
I get paid Friday, so the updated 401k contribution which will hit my account Monday should get me close. We'll see if it hits this week or next...

Good Job!
What may happen is the market gets a small drop, and you are still at $297K. It's often frustrating, but when the market gets back up, it's party city!
Keep the faith!

Thanks.
We are doing pretty well considering I had some job losses from 2008 to 2013.
We have about $160-$260k in equity in our primary home. I know people don't count that, but for the level we are at it's a significant portion of our net worth if you want to include that and we'll probably downsize in 20 years so some of that equity will be realized.
We also have a rental property (our old house) that we have about $100k in equity on, but it cash flows pretty well which we intend to keep longterm.
The great thing about the rental property is that the rent roughly increases with inflation. Now if things keep going well, we're at a stage where we can heavily dump into retirement funds to catch-up to some of the others on here.
(I'm 41 and my wife is 36 by the way).

300K is quite an accomplishment. Well done! I am doing the same bounce back and forth on 700K. Hoping to his 750K by years end. Fingers crossed.

You'll get there but it may not be on the time table you want. I've always thought that investing was a two steps forward one step back type of thing.

Good job! And yeah, those milestones can get so frustrating when they seem SOOOO close, but then the market fakes you out. But hang tight; you'll get there soon!
Oh, and be prepared...you'll probably hit that $300K threshold several times...going up and coming down!

I know the feeling of being 'stuck in a rut' when you just barely reach your milestone then the investments slide only to start inching up and down a few times before finally passing that point. Happens to me every month

So a good day yesterday and a 401k contribution was enough to push it over $300,000 for the first time yesterday! I know it will likely drop back and forth. Hoping it stays above 300k so when I log my end of month tracking, that it will be the first month over.
Next milestone is $350k, hopefully sometime in 2015. Even better if it's early in the year.

Things went south a bit on Friday, so checking to see where the month ends... Teetering back and forth.

Keep on truckin'. The milestones will keep happening. Yesterday I was reviewing my net worth over the past 30 years. I have a composition book (simple but it works) for all these years and make net worth entries twice a year. In July 1984 my net worth was $22,000. Today, net worth well past $1 mil with no debt. I couldn't count the ups and downs over the years. Just keep focused!

Congrats, I remember how great it felt when I hit 300k back around 06. Climbing towards those milestones is the one thing I miss about w*rk though now it's the market that can make or break me hitting one.

Congrats!
My opinion: don't look at it again for 6 months. You made it. Ignore the blips and burps for now. $350K is in your gun sights...keep marching straight ahead!

Easier said than done. 😏 I try to check only every two weeks when I record my 401(k) and Roth contributions. 📓✏️

In your early 40s, you have a LONG road ahead. I suggest updating your spreadsheet or whatever you have once a month (maximum), instead of getting bogged down in the noise of every day.
