if I join a new company and get laid off after 1 or 2 months due to their funding problem, will I be eligible for any UI ? this is in CA. I've been with my current employer for over 6 years, will any of those money apply towards my eligibility ?

You can check your state's unemployment insurance agency for the information on eligibility.

I know that in several states you have to work for at least 18 months before the last time you collected UI in order to collect it. But it doesn't necessarily have to be 18 months at the place that wound up laying you off. Since you've been working for six years you'll meet any minimum working time requirement. And it doesn't matter that you joined a new company that failed, you ought to be eligible even if you only worked there for one day and they went under AFAIK.

I think you have to average a certain amount of hours each week (lets say 30) for a certain amount of time (lets say 6 months). Youll have to check with your state UI office. In the past I worked seasonal at a golfcourse, and almost everyone there worked during the summer and went on unemployent from Halloween through mid-april.
