Back in Business

OK, I have moved most of the old messages into a few consolidated boards.

I left in "Old Boards" the stuff that is likely of little interest, such as how-to messages on using the old forum software. But everything has been preserved.

I consolidated all the financial boards into FIRE and Money, the "gotta see this" and "get rich quick" together with Other, and most of the others into Life after FIRE. I left "Hi, I am..." and "Young Dreamers" alone, and just moved them.

This is sure to please few and annoy many.

Don't stop with suggestions -- I just wanted to get folks back in business . . . errr, back on FIRE, and no place to post seemed a hinderance.

Re: Back in Business

Yay, the forum is alive again. Man I love this new software. I didn't realize just how many features it has and how much faster it would be.

I just noticed one small issue, though. In the old board when you quoted a message it had a link back to that message above the quote. The migration process stripped those links from the old posts. But new quotes have the links, and this board is so fast and has such a great search feature I don't think losing the old quote links will be a headache. Hopefully the benefits outweigh the inconveniences.

I like the changes, a lot. The shorter list of boards is much better IMO.

I notice it's a lot faster to use now, plus my profile says I am several years younger!* * Oh, I know how to correct it, but I'll do that later...

Re: Back in Business

I see a number of ages have to be wrong. Maybe they always were. Even though it helps the male/female ratio, Charlie needs a sex change to male. At least I think so.

Re: Back in Business

Hmmm, apparently 98 people on this board were born on 1969-12-31 ... or so the database thinks. Did the old board show age? Maybe later today I'll change all 1969-12-31 birthdays to 0000-00-00. Surely JWR, johngalt (his first account), RedOscar, Ted and Bob_Smith weren't all born on December 31, '69.

As for charlie, recall he posted as Chuck-Lyn for a while, and at least at first his wife posted under the same name occasionally. Perhaps Lyn still posts as charlie and that's why charlie has the female flag.

Re: Back in Business

HI BMJ..............when I first saw that age 35 under a profile
of someone I knew was older than me, I thought it was a
joke. Then, I noticed a whole bunch of 35s, including in my profile.
It would be nice (to be 35 again). My DW would be pleased

Re: Back in Business

What threw me is that I am 35, and at first I wondered if it was showing me my age under many others' names. But that' just coincidence apparently. Out of 134 users that have birthdays entered, 98 have 12-31-69 (not my birthday). In the unix world the clock is a count of seconds since that date, but there seems to be no rhyme or reason to which users have that birthday, so I'm not sure what happened. But I'll fix it now...there, done.

Code:
UPDATE `(table_name)` SET `birthdate` = '0000-00-00' WHERE `birthdate` = '1969-12-31';

Re: Back in Business

Although I posted as Chuck-Lyn as a guest for a long time, my
wife Lyn has never posted (at least I don't think so).

I was only somewhat mortified to notice that I was listed as a
female .... at 71 it makes less and less of a difference.

Cheers,

Charlie

Re: Back in Business

Mine shows the goofy age, but I dont think I put in a birthday on the old board. I was enjoying being 8 years younger. At least on paper.
