Best of the boards...

Great concept. Com'mon, moderators, pick yer best/favorite threads and move 'em over. You will receive much gratitude from me, for one.

Hey, we're just the labor slaves with the permissions to move the threads. I'll move "Best of" threads when I think I've found one, but we also depend on you guys to let us know which threads merit the honor.

So post or PM us if there's a thread that needs to go to "Best of"...

Re: Best of the boards...

Might be a good idea to pick some thread 'topics' that are oft discussed, start a fresh moderated thread where the usual suspects main proponents of various viewpoints make their case with point and counterpoint, no name calling or cryin' to their mommas, etc. Try to make them one easy to read page. Make them stickies in the "best of" area?

Re: Best of the boards...

Heh, the problem with a RE-themed board is that nobody wants to work.

Blame Laurence...he made the recent push for the board then disappeared.

I was a big part of making that board work "properly", so my work is done here. 8)

Seriously, we are a lazy bunch, but sooner or later I expect that board will get populated. Sorry for the delay.

Book reviews? I do understand the search function, but a concise 'best of...book reviews' would certainly draw some hits....

Maybe you can read some of the old threads on Monday when you're supposed to be w*orking...

Re: Best of the boards...

I know what we need.

Some interns willing to do the work without asking for a salary.

After all, if you cant sell working for free along side people who figured out how to get rich and retire early...

DC, by any chance are you bucking for a moderator's job? Apply anytime!

Dory or BMJ, if you'll create a new board name with a catchy title like "Book Reviews", I'll start moving the book-review posts to that section.

Re: Best of the boards...

I would love to see a health and fitness forum. I think boomers are very interested in maintaining their longevity and are quite dedicated in maintaining their overall health with regular exercise and supplementation.

Oh to the question at hand, some of the best threads are the lighthearted ones in Martha's catch all forum

Re: Best of the boards...

We should probably have a computer advice forum, too. (Just kidding.)

As currently envisioned, the "best of" board is for ER-related gems. I hope to see a good rent-vs-buy thread, pay-off-the-mortgage-or-not thread, some retirement stories invovlving the difficulty of adjusting from saving to drawing down and other such topics that are important questions for those who haven't already been through the pros and cons.

About a year ago dory36 cut the number of boards here. At the time I thought he cut it to too few boards, but in retrospect I think it has worked fabulously. In my opinion it helps limit and focus the active conversations and makes fewer threads to pick through when reading selectively.

As usual, just my opinion. I have no veto power.

I think we should have a forum to discuss new forums in.

Re: Best of the boards...

Hi Guys! (& Martha! )

Don't know if this is the correct place to post but just thought one great "subject" for "Best of the Boards" would be various spreadsheets and where to download them from. I just finally got a "freebee" version of Excel (which didn't come with my computer system ) so I am anxious to see all those bells and whistles.

Thanks again, Dory and Monitors for this great forum! You're the Best!

Jane
