I was getting some kind of pop up at times yesterday. I forget exactly what it said but something about trying to take me to another page, but I had an OK or cancel option and I always picked cancel. Sounds like the same thing but my system seemed to catch it before taking me there. Seemed to be on only one e-r.org topic page but I don't remember which one and I didn't have time to pursue. Window 10 running MS IE 11.xx. I don't think this was a Safari specific incident.

No problems today either.

Yesterday, in addition to closing the Safari tab that had this forum site, I reset my iPad.

I haven't had any problems since.

Sounds like this may be a Safari specific popup hijacker. The following thread talks primarily about how to deal with it on a Mac but in a comment one user suggests that on a phone you should kill the app the way I suggested (double tap the home key, then swipe the app off to clear it from memory). Don't click on the same link again.

I agree - after looking at this fairly extensively, we have come to the same conclusion. Resetting safari should solve the issue. AND..... if it's been a while since you restarted your device that would be a great idea as well.

I loved the quote from Apple: This is not a virus. No, no, it's just a malicious program that installed itself in a component of the Apple iOS operating system without your knowledge or permission. Nothing to see here. Move along.

The = "don't click on the link again" advice isn't very helpful when you've been using the same website forever and you are only clicking on forum links you've used many times. It's not like I clicked on any ad.

But yes, once I reset my iPad, I had no more trouble.

I'll turn on blocking popups. Hmmmm - it was already on. But I get pop ups all the time!

I'm getting the pop-up on my Windows laptop again. I just got it when I went to "New Posts". The popup asks "Do you want to allow this website to open an app on your computer?" With choices of Allow and Cancel. Once again I picked Cancel. I gave my specs in post #22 above. I've only seen it once so far today. I am NOT on Safari.

It's back. I've seen this at a couple other websites over the years. In my case I updated my iOS earlier today.

I'll attach a screenshot

I'm quite fond of Apple, usually, but this is funny!

MichaelB, I had the same thing popped up today. I had to hit cancel. I didn't do any update.
Edit to add, I see the same pop up again.

I had it pop up on the flyertalk.comforum yesterday. Kicked out Safari and reloaded, and it went away.

This seems to be something that gets into forum sites.
