I'd like to ignore a moderator

Hi,

I don't mind having my posts moderated, threads deleted, or receiving PMs from any or all of the moderators. But I'd like to avoid reading one moderator's posts.

I tried to add the person to my ignore list and the board software says I can't ignore them because they're a moderator.

The posts in question are ordinary posts where the person is just sharing their opinions on a topic like a regular board member. They are not "moderating-related posts" like closing a thread, or explaining why a post was edited.

Please consider changing this feature of the board so that I can ignore this person's regular posts. Alternatively, maybe moderators have a "regular person account" and a "I'm a moderator now account". Alternatively, please explain why I shouldn't be able to ignore a moderator's regular comments on a topic when I can ignore regular users.

Thanks,

2Cor521

If it's any consolation, the mod in question* can't ignore you either.

*For obvious reasons, mods aren't permitted to ignore members.

Tough problem, but here's a reference source that might help:

Could that be because you have mastered the art of looking rich?

As it should be IMO, I vote we leave everything as is on this request. We won't agree on everything, but I wouldn't accuse any past or present Moderator of being stupid or confrontational (they do that in private). Ignore is for "doofi" - Mods aren't in that category.

Aren't we supposed to debate Moderating in private anyway?

Just skip posts you don't want to read, easy-peasy. Seriously...

That's what I've been doing so far, although I've been told it helps if you have thick skin......... which I don't.

+1. I never even thought about using the ignore function. It is easy to skim through stuff you are not interested in. If it really irritates you read it as a character building exercise.

I don't use the 'ignore' feature either, however....

I do think there is merit to this. I have responded to what I thought was a 'moderator as poster' comment, only to find that my response was seen as commenting on the moderator action. Since many of the mods are regular posters, and some are quite opinionated (which is fine), it's hard to tell a 'moderator post' from a 'moderator as poster' sometimes. I'm not a mind reader, I'm a post reader.

Oooh, thanks for the entertaining thread!

I've always had a strong tendency to allow things that don't interest me directly to pass straight over my head - both in real life and on the internet, so have never had a need for the ignore function on this, or any board. However IMO, whether or not you agree with, or like, what mods have to say, they do tend to form an important part of the "conscience" of this place, so to speak. For this reason, I think it's a good idea to be aware of what they're saying.

And hey - as an alternative, there's always real life
