Redirected to porn sites

Hi, recently when first logging onto ER, I am redirected to porn sites. Usually stops after 2-3 attempts, and normal reading resumes. I use an iPad, and this doesn't happen on any other site I frequent. Is this a known issue with ER?

I just find it a bit distracting as it delays my logging onto ER by several hours

There are a couple of possibilities. The iPad doesn't support browser plugins or additions, or DNS hacking, so the worst thing you might have within the iPad is a bad bookmark or web link.

1). You may have a bookmark for this site that actually links to a different site that serves up the unwanted content before redirecting here. I've seen emails containing such suspect links. The usual gag is to silently " frame" the desired website on the first use, then when used again (after you've saved the bookmark) you get the "special" content.

Check your bookmark for this site. If the actual URL starts off with some other site, you have likely found the problem.

2). Your router has been hacked. DNSChanger and some other malware do this from infected PCs connected to the router from a local network. DNS is what maps web site names into raw addresses used by the Internet. A hacked DNS sends your web site requests to Dr. Evil's systems.

Doing the manufacturer reset on the router with only known clean equipment on the local network, and immediately changing the router password from the default to one that isn't known by every hacker and script kiddy will correct this.

No worries. Thanks for the info. There doesn't seem to be anything in my bookmarks or history, but it sounds like the issue is 'my end' so to speak. Just wondered as it doesn't happen when I use my saved bookmarks to get to any other site. I'll clear the ER bookmark and redo it. Thanks again

Couldn't you save the bookmark, then post it here for others to try to duplicate your problem?

I'm sure there will be some volunteers on this board who will be happy to assist in re-enacting the "crime".

Thanks for the heads up.

Now, what is the URL of the sites that you have encountered. I'll have my team of experts evaluate the situation and get back in a couple of hours.

It depends on what you are doing in ER.

Well, since logging onto your thread, my pop-ups have stopped.

How are your pop-ups after visiting the porn site?

Eh, the "bug" or whatever caused the OP to lose several hours, as he said in the initial post.

Of course, the rest of us will never be able to figure out what this devious bug or virus was, now that he already deleted it.
