BigMoneyJim, I noticed that some names of users on line appear purple, different ones at different times, while the rest are the usual light blue. What's the reason for that? Is that a, "in the prcess of posting" indicator? I guess that because currently it's TH and JG.

This software categorizes users into groups automatically by posts and manually into special groups like global admin. Currently admins are red and the top posting group is italicized purple. The group membership also affects the stars, smilies and messages under your username on your posts. th and JG are the only ones in the top posting category at the moment and that's why they're purple with 6 smilies and the Picasso quote.
If at some point we conolidate unclemick and charlie like I did with JG then I think unlcemick still is short of the top group. I have no idea how many guest posts charlie has. Cut Throat looks like the next likely member of the group.
One thing I just figured out the other day is why my name is always listed first in the "who's online" bit at the bottom of the first page. I never gave much thought to it but figured it was alphabetical until I realized it wasn't. It's apparently in order of recent access, and since I clicked on the link microseconds before the display I'm nearly always the most recently active.

For those who know what RSS news feeds are, the new forum software supports them.
For those who don't know, the first thing to realize is that you probably don't want to click on the following links; they're for the RSS news reader and probably won't work in your browser. The second thing is that there is RSS reader software available that lets you check on recent news articles--or in this case, forum topics and posts--without going to the site and looking around first.
Please don't do something silly like set the reader to check for updates every minute or we'll have to turn the feature off.
If you are using the Firefox web browser you already have some RSS news feed support 8) - just make a new "live bookmark" to one of the URL's. The URL will show up as a folder in your bookmark window (or menu) with entries the URLs of the recent messages.
Pretty convenient - thanks BigMoneyJim!

This is a test post. I noticed this thread disappeared from the Forum Admin board index. I am going to see if a new post in this thread still shows up in the recent posts list or if posting brings it back to the index. No need to replay to this post.
If anyone notices that other recent threads have disappeared please PM dory36 and me.
EDIT: This thread is still not in the Forum Admin index. It can be seen through "recent posts" and through looking through the post history of people who've posted here. I'll look into why this happened. I know this thread had a poll attached, so that's where I'll start investigating.
I just got a Blackberry at work, and this URL makes reading the forum on the Blackberry much easier, although many of the neater features of the board aren't available.
I didn't think to try it on my internet-enabled cell phone yet.
(The cell phone internet is a free trial. Work pays for the blackberry. I have internet at home and work and don't really feel compelled to fill the gap in between the two, but I do really like web surfing from the commode....)

OMG, that's too funny! Have you taken that net-addict test yet?

I couldn't let this one get away, but my perspective is different:
Jim, I think you've found 'the holey grail' of retirement, the elusive component that all of us seek--the penultimate goal--the part that truely makes for a happy retirement: Sit on the commode, Snack, Nap (repeat).
Although I presume too much, I believe many here would say "Jim, we are sooooo proud of you! If your Backberry has a camera, you should send us a picture. But send it to a different thread, please. Also, you should reduce your multi-tasking.
