If social security was not taken out of your check for several years, because of an error of your employer, is there any way to make it up:confused:?

Are you saying that your employer forgot to take your money to send to the SS office?

If so, shouldn't you be grateful for that mistake instead? I think I would be.

I am a teacher. The teachers on city retirement have ss taken out and a lower retirement. The teachers on state retirement have no ss taken out and a higher retirement. I opted the city retirement when I started working at age 22; then I stopped while I raised my kids. When I went back to work, the school district put me on state retirement so no ss was taken out. Then, I found out it was a legal issue, I had to go back to the city because I had originally signed up for that. All the money in the state retirement was transferred to the city. But since no ss had been taken out for those years, the ss part was never repaired. Now, if ss had been taken out for those 7 years, my ss at age 62 would be much, much higher. And I think I could retire. So I can't retire because of an error my school district made, and also it was my error too, I guess. But actually, I did not know I had to be forced back to the city by some weird legal thing. I had resigned my post and everything. None of it makes sense. Beauacracy at its worst.
