2014 HSA funding deadline?
<hangs head in embarrassment>
Oops, I haven't set up and funded an HSA -- and my 2014 policy was HSA eligible (as will be my 2015 plan).
Is this something I have to by 12/31 (EOD? Market Close) or do I have until 4/15/15 to set up and fund the 2014 HSA?
TIA --

Not totally sure, but I think today is the day.

IRS Publication 969 says you have until April 15 to make contributions to your HSA. I couldn't see any requirement/deadline on opening a HSA.

OK -- might be a quick trip to Bank of America or the Credit Union as a starting point just to get it done, until I can figure out a better place to transfer the HSA to.

I have never seen a deadline posted for opening an HSA account either.
You can have until April 15 2015 to put in the contributions for 2014.

The only account related deadline I am familiar with is only those medical expenses incurred after opening the HSA account are eligible for tax-free withdrawals.

FOUND AN ANSWER!
Bank of America says you can open and fund an HSA for the prior calendar year until you file your income taxes or until the tax deadline (generally April 15) – whichever comes first.
Can I open an HSA for the prior calendar year?–Bank of America

HOORAY! Audreyh1 -- you're a hero!
One last thing to do today which is good -- looks like I might have to take my 91 yr old father to the doc for possible aspiration pneumonia. His home health nurse just left and said to make the appointment.
