Acupuncture and losing weight.

My dear wife is putting on a lot of weight. She is blaming her menopouse. I, on my opart think her bouts of anxiety/sadness are the main cause of her irregular eating habits.
She starting acupunture. Does it work, ...complemented with some sort of diet, of course?
We in Spain donīt`put much faith in these techniques...

I get by with a little help from my friends....ta ta ta ta ta...

Combined with diet and exercise, it works great.

Vicente, I think it's a truism that people forget to eat when they are grieving. Maybe you could help her remember when to eat.

I don't know anything about acupuncture but many here, near Chinatown, believe it works.

Actually I have never heard of acupuncture being a weight loss technique. I am great believer in alternative medicines and have to say that acupuncture has been the one thing that has never done anything that it was supposed to do for me. I have tried 4 different practitioners, however maybe it's different strokes for different folks.

I be a girl, he's a boy. Think I maybe FIRED since July 08. Mid 40s, no kidlets. Actually am totally clueless as to what is going on with DH.

I would get my thyroid level checked if she hasn't done so already. From what I've read, many women suffer from hypothyroidism during their peri and post menopause years. Hypothyroidism would slow down the metabolism and would definitely make you gain weight.

As for acupuncture, I have no idea if it works to make you lose weight. I know a person who had acupuncture treatments for nicotine cessation and it worked for her (well worked for at least 3-4 years).

Is she eating more sugar and candy things, Vicente? That would be normal while going thru menopause. I couldn't get enough candy during that time, and didn't know why until a physician pointed out I was in menopause. Other than that, I breezed thru it, but some women really go thru rough, rough times--thru no fault of their own. It's just hormones, but they have night sweats, raging/screaming bouts, acting nutty, crying jags, sweating is NO fun for these ladies. Almost like living with a seriously bi-polar person who's on the edge of a breakdown.
One of the mentally and physically healthiest women I ever knew went thru one of the worst bouts of menopause I ever saw, so you never know who will have a rough time of it.
Menopause, her mother passing and the totally crazy hormones "some" women get during that wonder she's putting on weight. She'll come out of it, so just give her time. Rough time for some women, truly. You need to be her rock during this time. She'll love you more for it, really. Just be patient and be there for her, poor lady. This too shall pass....

As for the accupuncture, I had a friend who used it for pain with carpel tunnel. She swore by it. Another male friend used it to quit smoking, and said it worked. Let her give it a try, cause it couldn't hurt.

Please consider adopting a rescue animal. So very many need a furr-ever home and someone to love them! And if we all spay/neuter our pets there won't be an overpopulation to put to death.
