After Health Ins. is fixed; Then Auto ins.- same % uninsured

The council expects the rate to rise from 13.8 percent in 2007 to 16.1 percent in 2010.
Estimated number of uninsured motorists rising - Pacific Business News (Honolulu):

I thought I would post this here - have an auto accident and you will need medical attention.

About 16% don't have health ins (expensive)and the same % doesn't have auto ins (expensive). So after health ins. is fixed; the government needs to tackle auto ins.

Then other expensive things:
Housing
Food
Clothing
Gasoline
French Wine

How does one register one's car annually without insurance? Also, in PA, it is required that you have an annual inspection which necessitates that you show proof of registration and also proof of insurance. I have never understood how you could drive here without insurance.

Buy uninsured motorist coverage.

<sigh>

If your point is a slippery slope, I don't buy it. Buying french wine has nothing to do with buying cancer treatment.

Oh, I don't think people should go hungry either. Thank goodness for food stamps, food shelves and soup kitchens.

Not all states require the proof. In other states vehicles go without getting their registration renewed.

They get it when they have to; pay a month's premium then drop it until they need it again.

I've been driving for 13 years and have never had to show proof of insuance to renew my registration or get a new registration. I live in Wisconsin. My car insurance is quite cheap at $36.66/mo for full coverage on a vehicle worth about $12,000.
Health insurance costs is far more of a problem IMHO.

Humm... if everyone has health insurance maybe the uninsured motorist $ in auto insurance will go down. Hadn't thought about that.

This got my curiosity going...by state data (2004 vintage) is found here:
http://www.ircweb.org/news/20060628.pdf
Anybody find any more recent data?

I'm not surprised to see NY as one of the lowest percentages. We have a lot of routine vehicle checks conducted by LE
on-the-fly on the roads.
A big change in the last 3 years (or longer?) was my auto insurance policy is only issued for 6 months, not the 1 year policy I was used to. No accidents or tickets on my part.

The French Wine represents aspects of life
- preventative medicine
- enjoyment of life
- truth - "in vino veritas"

Although WV does the same thing as PA, some people pay their car insurance monthly and let it lapse after registering or the inspection, and WV is not very good at following up on that.

MD has a very aggressive system, requiring the insurance companies to notify the MVA (Motor Vehicle Administration) whenever the insurance lapsed. The MVA would then sent notice to the car owner telling them to do one of several things:

1. Show proof of insurance
2. Show proof that the car has been sold or totaled
3. Send us the license plates AND your driver's license

If they don't, the car is "flagged" and if it is stopped by the police it is immediately impounded, the plates removed and sent to MVA, and then the owner had to get insurance, pay the tow bill and storage fees, and re-register the car. I impounded dozens of them and had no sympathy whatsoever for those deadbeats.

Anyone checked out the price of a week in ICU lately?

I made that stuff up about the French Wine after I read your post.
It sounded good.

In most states it is illegal to drive a car without liability insurance.
