Diabetes and Alzheimers linked?

Here is one study that found a link between diabetes and alzheimers.

The report is highly technical and probably hard to understand for most of us.
Here is one quote from the conclusions:

Altogether, the results from these studies provide strong evidence in support of the hypothesis that AD represents a form of diabetes mellitus that selectively afflicts the brain.

Thanks, that was interesting. It was published over 4 years ago, there should be plenty of responses from the Alzheimer's research community by this time. I'm not sure what the consensus is.

If AD is a kind of diabetes, it would explain why the rate of AD is increasing.
