It is possible that an amateur science writer (Teischolz) and a professional science journalist (Taubes) are getting it right while the vast majority of primary researchers are getting it wrong:

Prevention of Coronary Heart Disease by Diet and Lifestyle

But my money is on the folks doing the actual work, not the journalists cherry picking and misrepresenting their results.

Those folks being paid (bribed?) to arrive at the results?

There's a whole lot wrong with they way we do medical research.

The Augean stables | Dr. Malcolm Kendrick
‘It is simply no longer possible to believe much of the clinical research that is published, or to rely on the judgement of trusted physicians or authoritative medical guidelines. I take no pleasure in this conclusion, which I reached slowly and reluctantly over my two decades as editor of the New England Journal of Medicine.’ Marcia Angell.
Sure drug companies sometimes misuse the system, but so do the researchers being funded by the NIH. They all need to get back to using the scientific method and producing reproducible results.

To me this is brilliant! Sensible recommendations that are doable. While I can't say anything about heart disease, I know eating this way works for weight modification. DW and I have lost 70+ pounds since April by eating this way. Makes sense that your body likes real food, not junk made in factories.

It is recommended to keep saturated fat to <10% of total calories. So, for example, a daily intake of 2000 total calories (okay, kcal...) gives 200 calories from sat fat, which, at 9cal/g, gives 22g of sat fat, equivalent to three burgers.

Want some red wine with that burger?
