If it is going to work away from home, then it will be more like a cell phone, it will need to be charged, etc. There will be a monthly fee for those. There is no fee with this x10 system, since it is standalone, calling your personal list, not a service.

Also, the x10 I linked works a little oddly, IMO. If you are on the calling list, when it connects, you can hear them, but they can't hear you. So the person has to know to call out and say something if they can.

I'm guessing that they are afraid a speakerphone would be problematic. The fallen person my be 50 feet or more from the base. To be sensitive enough to pick up their far-away voice, would probably result in feedback to keep the line open for 2-way communication. Though I'd think they could go half-duplex and really do a hard cut when the other party is quiet.

But the pendant is waterproof, IIRC. Meant for keeping it on in the shower, but 2x check that.
