There is a lot of material available on the web about this disease and specific forums dedicated to it, but I was wondering if anyone here has any personal experience with ankylosing spondylitis (or knows someone who has)?

It sounds like it should be the name of a Greek shipping magnate, so I wiki'd it.... turns out it IS Greek.

Glad I don't have it, don't know anyone who does. I'm no help at all.

My brother in law has it. He is about 58 and has been slowly getting worse over the decades but whatever exercise and treatments he uses are keeping him mobile and relatively pain free. He did have some vertebrae fused a few years back IIRC.

My soon to be ex husband has it, so I've lived with someone for over a decade with it. I can answer questions if you have any. His pain has been helped immensely with Remicade transfusions and daily exercise.

3 weeks post surgery

I had a double fusion (C7-T1) 3 weeks ago.
- ankylosing spondylitis
- herniated disc
- arthritis
- bone spurs

I am doing well, and still have another month before I return to work. I feel like a new person being pain free for the first time in 6 years!

On a side note, I don't know how I will ever be able to go back to work.
