Another thing to worry about......for the past few yrs, I've been satisfied if the medical insurance covered foreign emergency expenses thinking I could always schedule the other procedures at home. (I suppose this could also apply to domestic out-of-area expenses if you belong to an HMO). This morning, however, after calling the plan on my annual worry-wart reassurance call (tied to open enrollment), the rep came up w/ a new wrinkle.........she said the plan only covers outpatient expenses to stabilize you. I asked what if
they couldn't release you immediately and she said inpatient costs would not be covered. I had never worried about that situation before.
Is that the way most plans work? What is the way to deal w/ this situation.....typ. costs for coverage and where/who etc. to get coverage?
