I've been planning to retire at 50 for the past 28 years (at age 22, when I started my first post college job). I started putting my first retirement spreadsheet together about 10 years later. I found a tab in my spreadsheet that I created in 2001 which used online insurance quotes to estimate health care costs. For a $500 deductible policy for two adults, age 55 (DH) and age 50 (me), the monthly premium was $557. The equivalent premium today is $945. Unsubsidized Obamacare is $1,010 but has a $2k deductible.
Nothing surprising - we all knew that medical inflation is higher than standard CPI but still ....
Oy - another good excuse to go OMY ....
