Freebird & others: Hilarious Colonoscopy Article

Long, but you will laugh your colon off...

Quote:
Dave Barry: A journey into my colon -- and yours
(This Dave Barry column was originally published Feb. 22, 2008.)

.... In 1997, when I turned 50, everybody told me I should get a colonoscopy. I agreed that I definitely should, but not right away. By following this policy, I reached age 55 without having had a colonoscopy. Then I did something so pathetic and embarrassing that I am frankly ashamed to tell you about it.

What happened was, a giant 40-foot replica of a human colon came to Miami Beach....

Sarah, since my Dad died of colon cancer relatively young, I had to have the screening at 40.

I am so sorry for that, Sarah. I have a friend battling it now. You can bet I'll be getting DH down there for his screen in just a few short years.
I hope you remain clear in your future screenings.

My colonoscopy wasn't quite as funny.

Seems klike a match of my colonoscopy experience! The only difference was when I woke up I claimed to have been awake and saw the whole thing.....of course that as not true in the least but that was the first words I remember uttering!

I have to go back to my health provider and fight to get another one

For some reason (money) they decided I only need one every ten years now even though in both the endoscopy and the following (5 years) colonoscopy they found pollups in both.

Oh, I wish I had read that before Monday. He was spot on with imagining all that tubing...
BTW, I never told you all what I did in the recovery room while I first woke up and was still loopy.
Use your imagination...wild horses will not drag the details out of me.

Didn't I read somewhere that you can now get a pill, or set of pills, that do what the bad-tasting liquid does? Only, they're pills, so you don't have to taste them.

I was told to use OTC laxative (4 Ducolax pills) and a bottle of OTC laxative (MiraLax) powder, dissolved in either Gatorade or Powerade. I hate Gatorade, so I used orange flavored PowerAde. It wasn't half bad. I'm referring to the taste, not the aftermath effects.
