Frustrated in Health insurance seach
Hello everyone. I am new to this forum and hope I can get some help. I am a 55 year old male that left his job in April of 2008 and left his medical group insurance behind without a clue as to how to get new medical insurance. I made the serious mistake of not checking things out and here I am in September of 2008 facing a confusing array of choices. Here is my situation:
1. Medical history
I have never been diagnosed with diabetes, but had one MD check out my blood sugar level three years ago and was told I might have Type II adult onset diabetes. I have no symptoms of any kind, but have modified my diet and exercise. Does this mean I have a pre-existing condition for purposes of medical insurance?
In September of 2008 I had oral surgery for dental implants and while I was under anesthesia the heart monitor began to show a series of elevated blips. The anathesiologist believed it was indicative of my heart being in distress and had me sent to an ER as a precaution. The blood tests at the ER found elevated PVC's (chemical tracers in blood that may indicate heart distress, but they were not conclusive). I suffered no chest pain, difficulty breathing or any discomfort. Would that be considered a pre-existing condition for purposes of medical insurance?
If the above will be considered a pre-existing condition, can I get health insurance?
2. Current situation
I have been out of my group health insurance plan for six months and was turned down by an Aetna agent for insurance recently when I explained the above.
I understand that because I waited so long I am not eligible for COBRA or HIPPA. What choice do I have?
