Hammer Toe

Not exactly life threatening, but it can be a pain & curtail activity. Anyone had experience with it, & do you know of any remedies (exercises, eg) short of surgery?

Bobot, surgery is the only definitive fix, but you can go a loooonnnnggg way with either orthotics or carefully selected shoes for symptom control.

You might wish to visit a podiatrist (as opposed to an orthopedist) and tell him or her that you would like to treat this nonsurgically if possible. Maybe they can construct something to help you do that.

Re: Hammer Toe

THanks, Rich. Different shoes do seem to make a difference. Unfortunately my favorite exercise shoes seem to aggravate it, so I guess I need to find new ones.

What causes these conditions? Are the tendons shortened for some reason?
