Just a thought that may help some of us struggling with weight issues.

My wife eats healthy and exercises regularly to stay trim and fit and says a little saying passed on to her helps keep her on track and that is:

"Nothing tastes as good as thin feels."

I think that really hit home for me after my size 34 pants fit again after having moved into size 38's previously.

I tend to move between 34 and 36 pants as by weight drfits above 175. When we left for England 2 weeks ago I decided to only bring 34" pants as an added incentive. With no car here I'm also hoping that having to walk everywhere will also help.

Not heard that saying - thanks. Good work on your progress, almost at your goal, although like me you may feel like you are halving the distance every time and never seem to quite get there.

Good to see that reversal in weight movement

Yesterday morning I was at 175 and then we went on 7.5 mile hike in the hills. But blew the good work by ending the journey with steak and Kidney pudding washed down with a pint of Guinness - and then got the bus home.

We joined the local gym this morning and put in a good weight lifting shift. It also means we have a place to go for cardio when the weather is inclement, but walking in the hills and moors sure beats a treadmill or stationary bike any day.

Still heading generally in the right direction. I've given up on diets, due to the yo-yo effect, and am simply modifying my lifestyle. Losing weight is a lot slower this way, but steadier (except for that long vacation last fall).

Portion size control, increased percentage of veggies in my diet, and avoiding ice cream and potato chips (my big weaknesses). That's about it.

I mentioned in other threads that I have been counting calories and going relatively low carb. My calories goal is a range from 900 to 1100 (this is not too low given my height of 4'11") with some days out of whack. One day this week I only had 660 but wasn't hungry. The next day I had 1500 and was very hungry. The second day I also had a fair amount of exercise. I have to watch going too low as it might make me overcompensate. Average the two days though and I am roughly on target.

Another thing that is interesting is the way a person's weight varies a couple of pounds or so in a day. To try to keep things relatively comparable I weigh myself once a week at the same time of the day. Otherwise, just with natural fluctuations I can have a week where I feel like I gained weight but probably did not.

Down 15 since January.

Me neither. DW says I'm just a wimp but, then again, she can be a real meanie at times.

Goal: 176
Target range: 175-180
Height: 5'11"

Jan, '10: 198
6/3: 184
7/7: 184.5
8/4: 185.5
9/1: 186
10/6: 186.5
10/27: 184
12/29: 186 surgery
1/12: 174
1/19: 176 Uh, oh, my appetite is back!
1/26: 179
2/2: 178.5
2/9: 179.5
2/16: 178
2/23: 180
3/2: 179.5
3/9: 180
3/16: 179.5
3/23: 179
3/30: 181
4/6: 180

I seem to be stuck in this narrow range but it's not a bad place to be. I can eat relatively well provided I don't get carried away and continue to exercise everyday. I no longer have a gut (it used to get in the way when I'd bend over to tie my shoes) and am wearing 34 waist pants again as opposed to the 38's I once wore. I also use the bowflex daily and have added muscle in place of the fat I dumped so I'm going to trade in my hard target goal of 176 for a range of 175-180 since that seems more realistic.
