Thanks for the references Al.

As usual it looks like it is not known for certain what the actual dangers are to rapid weight cycles.

The Doc I had for the 15 years in Louisiana got agitated one time when I put on 10lbs between annual physicals. I had lost 40lbs the year before on the WW program at work, and he was of the opinion that rapid weight cycles were bad. It never came up again as I haven't had a 10lb cycle since then.

Interesting. Thanks Al. Sort of what I suspected. Being in my weight range is a big enough problem that any issue caused by cycling is pretty minimal. Probably if you were crash dieting and binge eating there would be more of an effect, but floating up and down over a period of many months doesn't really matter.

It's also funny to realize that as recently as 1995 or shortly thereafter there wasn't any decent Optical Character Recognition software so people just copied in pictures of the magazine article into a PDF.

Miniskirt season is just around the corner.

I have no illusions about looking good in a bikini, but I have all the other assets firmed up from my weekly table bussing. Last but not least to be toned up is my self inflicted beer mini-pudgie.

I borrowed a pedometer last week and clocked almost 1 mile just going back and forth carrying dishes and glasses at a very rapid pace with lots of agile movements not getting run over by the waitresses involved. I didn't put it on until almost 45 minutes into my movin' and groovin', so I'm guessing I accumulated close to 1.25 miles.

I guess I better join this thread to keep myself honest. I have a generous metabolism that enabled me to eat an awful, high carb diet without ballooning. Nevertheless about a year ago I peaked at 195 (6ft, 0in). At that point I cut out chocolate which was at around 6-8 oz/day. Over a few months I dropped to 180-182 where I stayed. After reading the low carb threads, I dropped carbs to ~50g - 100g/day and dropped to 172 over less than three weeks.

On vacation now and up to 100 - 150g which will test my guesstimated maintenance level.

Welcome to the thread Don. Sounds like you have done really well and are in a great place weight-wise. I look forward to reading your updates about easy or difficult it is to maintain it.

Analog scale yesterday appeared to show me holding at 172 - 173, good since I am eating more carbs on the road. Not a huge amount, maybe double what I have been doing.

Great to see everyone doing so well with their weight. It's amazing how once you make the commitment and get serious, how the weight will disappear.

I did my two weeks in France and over that period gained about 2lbs which is good considering how much cheese, bread and wine I ate. The other thing that was difficult was staying with friends and not having any control of what or when I ate. Initially I was stressed about how much weight I would be gaining due to my lack of exercise and poor diet carb-wise, however at some stage I just let it go.
