Hi folks,

I am planning on making weight loss one of my retirement tasks - and I have noticed that I am already losing weight - probably due to less stress snacking now that I'm two months into retirement.

I'm not ready to post actual weight yet (blush...) but maybe after a few weeks cheering you all on, I'll start posting.

That's what happened to me.

Less stress => less fat.

Spent a week in Las Vegas and ate like crazy but didn't gain anything. My hotel room was miles away from the casino so I guess that walking to the room was good excercise.

Looks like the members...er, folks are doing great.

Harley, sounds like you had a FUN holiday...

Me, I can't claim the "retirement effect," but maybe the "4 days off" effect? :) Here are the stats:

Last week: 140 (weighing with clothes on)
Today: 139! And this despite a sordid incident this weekend, involving Jelly Bellies...but I've eaten all the good ones now, so they can't tempt me any longer >:D

Goal: 133, or whenever my abs show :greetings10:

01/14/09: 276.4 lbs
01/21/09: 276.2 lbs

I'm rehabbing an injury that is preventing me from doing much exercise, so I'll take a "holding steady" week. Ronstar, good job for dropping weight even with a cast on! You're a better man than me! :D

Short term goal: 269 lbs
Long term goal: 225 lbs

Don't fret PBum - Once you're done rehabbing, the weight will fly off.

Holding steady at 126# :D

127#. Happy to be only one # heavier, given the fact that I entertained a business visitor for several lunches last week. I had to make sure they had some real southern local food. Fried chicken, mashed potatoes, fried corn nuggets, pecan pie one day....pulled pork, baked beans, fried pickles another day. Oh, the things I do for my job:ROFLMAO:

Back to Lean Cuisine's for lunch this week!

Disappointing - at present, 10 hr work days (plus 90 mins travel time) is restricting the exercise to weekends, but I should still be able to lose the 3lbs I would think.

Alan, don't be too hard on yourself - that's a lot of stress to be under! Also, you are awful close to your target range, which seems to be a fairly lean goal to me. In my experience, getting down those last few pounds is REALLY tough. You have to be almost perfect on the diet and work out like crazy - don't you think?

My First Wednesday post. I've gathered my courage to post here. All Y'all (learning Southern speech from another thread) are such nice folks.

Short Term Goal 200
Final Goal 140

I've actually lost about 10 pounds since retiring 2 months ago. I think the short term goal is achievable, but I'm not at all sure of the Final Goal.

NotReady, just take the goal one step at a time. Keep a journal of your food and exercise and run this just like your budget. That is what works best for me. When I started, it seemed like my goals were distant dreams, too!

I am just a pound down, to 159. Hoping to get some new shoes for dancing that will pump up my workout.

Simple Girl, I want an extra helping of that southern food you listed--especially the pecan pie! :)

Another week of treading water, but at least it's moving in the right direction. I hope to be able to start doing some cardio exercise in the next week or so.

Short term goal: 269 lbs
Long term goal: 225 lbs

Final Goal 140

I've told the story before: I lost 80 pounds after retiring. Half pound a week for 3 years. The fat went away with the stress.

Thanks SG. Of course, you are quite right. In reality I should really be happy to maintain where I am until work eases off and I can get back to a regular schedule.

Well, back to charting my progress. I'm still feeling crappy, can't exercise due to congestion and coughing (DW has it now too). But at least I've been eating decently. The holiday weight has been melting off. I guess it was water weight or something. I know there's no way I can do a 13 lb. weight loss in a month with no exercise under normal circumstances.

I'm planning to get going again now. I had gotten so close to my first goal, then fell off the wagon big time. I always do that to some extent after I go see the doc and get a good report. Combined with the holidays it was a death knell. I'm now hoping to make 220 by the end of Feb. One or two lbs. per week isn't unreasonable.

Good luck to the rest of you. Keep on keeping on.

Oh, no...I forgot about the Superbowl..that is a tough one to avoid over-eating. I love wings!

Just try downsizing to a Smallerbowl when it comes to those wings

Grazing on wings is probably the best solution to Superbowl food. But you have to have enough of them to last the pre-game festivities, the game itself, halftime and post game festivities. So I see maybe 6 hours of wings grazing.

I gained three pounds just reading your lunch menu for last week! Good you could actually eat it and only add one pound.

I'm still battling the "Christmas Bulge". It doesn't come off as quick as it used too. About 238 this morning.

LOL, thank goodness I have an active job! I am constantly on the go and do quite a bit of walking. I really need to get one of those pedometers just to see how many miles I put in in the average day.

Skipped last week due to my shoulder surgery. Not too horrible this week, considering how sedentary I am relative no my normal activity. Riding the exercise bike just about every day now, so hopefully that'll slow the slide down a bit until I get healthy,
