Finally making a bit of progress. It helped that I didn't go to the Cheesecake Factory this weekend like I did last weekend. Exercising is on track. I'm not making too many changes to the diet. Just trying to avoid having that one bad day that sets my entire week back. And thanks for the well-wishes! I'm feeling like I'm in pretty good shape -- P90x upper body lifting routines 3x/week plus martial arts 4x/week.

The Cheesecake Factory!! :bat: I think you should dangle that temptation as a reward for making your goal

As for me- I managed to hang onto my new low weight from the previous week, but best of all was my annual physical. Everything in spec, and when the Doc reviewed my EKG he looked back at the last couple of years and said my resting heart rate just keeps on going down and what am I doing to achieve this? (It was 39 bpm). I also had my bp taken by the Nurse 98/55 and later by the Doc 110/60 so all my recent concerns about high bp has more to do with the inacccuracies of the machines at work than any actual problem.

Congrats, simple girl! Nice big loss. Not sure if any of the following is fuzzy science or real, but this talks about sudden weight loss: Of Whooshes and Squishy Fat | BodyRecomposition - The Home of Lyle McDonald

That was an interesting read. If true, it could help explain how I can suddenly lose 3# in one week. One thing about this diet I am on...it forced me to kick my salt habit. I admit it, I'm a saltaholic. Everything had salt poured on it. The diet required me to give up salt and all artificial sweeteners for the first few weeks. I occasionally still have artificial sweetener in my tea, but I have kept the new habit of not adding salt to my food. It was really rough at first, and I still have cravings, but it's much better. I think this is helping me not retain water as much. One thing I do notice, though, is that after I lift weights my weight might go up a pound or so for a few days. I believe it is due to inflammation in the muscles causing a temporary increased retention of water. You certainly don't gain muscle mass that quick.

This is great news! Wow! I'm so glad the BP is under control. Congratulations!!!:clap::clap:

Wow, popular thread.

I'm 168 lbs. Fat content 19%. Not bad but not great by conventional standards. Too bad 8 year ago, I was 140 lbs, resting heart rate of 34, and a body fat content of 6% and could ride an average speed of 12 MPH up Monitor Pass. Hence the name BunsGettingFirm. I was in such great shape, so whatever shape I'm in now, I feel like a fat ass.

That's a fantastic fitness level you used to have, hopefully you've decided to reverse some of the past 8 years.

I look forward to seeing your posts each week.

Thanks for the encouragement. It's not the entire past 8 years. I was still doing great up to 2007 because I was going for my black belt much of that time. While not the mountain goat I once was, I was hovering around 13-15% body fat percentage from 1999 to 2007. Then in 2007, I got a new job and started the level 2 and 3 of the CFA exam which I now realize also stands for Create a Fat Ass exam.

Here's the weird thing... I haven't noticeably changed my eating habits nor my exercise routine. So I haven't figured out why I'm down a few pounds in the last month. Minor things? This weekend we ordered strombolis, and the last two nights we've had ice cream (Turkey Hill Graham Slam). Still doing martial arts 4x/week and lifting 3x/week, so that hasn't changed.

I weighed myself in the afternoon on Monday (something I rarely do). At that point I was 198.8 at 15.9% body fat. Guess the first-thing-in-the-morning dehydration makes my fat read higher than at other times.

Wow, 3 weeks in a row, could this new weight really be true?

SG, don't worry about that 2lb kick back, just keep on doing what you've been doing.

Kronk, you may not understand it, but you've hit your lowest weight this year. Good going my man :greetings10:

Nice job guys, keep kickin' it! Alan, I do think the 3 weeks in a row means it's a true loss. You are now down a total of 7.5# Woo-hoo!

Way to go everyone! Its good to see that people are eating ice cream, appetizers, etc, and still losing.

The diet I am following allows me to have a 150 cal "extra" every night (of course, calories are carefully watched throughout the day). My choice is 1/2 cup of ice cream (one that is 150 cal or less), every night. Yum, yum...our reward for being so good all day. And yes, I have been doing this every week (except week 1) I have been on this diet, and have been losing. So it is possible to have treats, if you manage it properly.

This is my first post on this thread. I could have written one of the recent posts on this page. I'll just say current BMI is 28.8 and next goal is 26.6.

Edit, update, fast results: I'm down to a 27.8 BMI just by removing my clothes! So my clothes weigh 5.9 pounds, and all these years I've been subtracting only five pounds from the clinic weight.

 Photos please

Ronstar, 12lb in the last few months - looks like you are well on course for your target - well done.

Welcome Cuppa Joe! This thread has been a great help to keeping me on track. :)

:Ronstar, 12lb in the last few months - looks like you are well on course for your target - well done.
But I wasn't able to get the last few off by August 1 - so I extended the target date - that was simple. You've reached your goal and kept it off the last 3 weeks - now what?

Next I want to move to the low end of my target range - 170lb. Hanging around 175 is too near the top limit.

I have a "dream" number that I would to achieve and that is 168lb, but only because it represents 12 stone, a weight I used to be in my early 30's back in jolly 'ole England.

GOAL: 20 lbs by September 15 (6.6 lbs/month)

6/15/09: 179.0 lbs
7/01/09: 177.5 lbs
7/15/09: 177.0 lbs
8/05/09: 178.0 lbs

Dang it, still slow start here. Still too wimpy to cycle in this summer heat and I havent backed it up with consistent treadmill time.

Got my new bike ('09 Fuji CCR3 Carbon Fiber) back from my fit shop yesterday. Wow, that bike flies compared to my Trek 7300 comfort step-thru!

I am encouraged by everyone here and have put a goal into action for the rest of this month to minimize my dining out and step up my calorie and fat burning activity.

Have a good week everyone!

Simple Girl, I eat Breyer's Fat Free Ice Cream after dinner most nites...that's something I save my calories for!

Well worth it! We eat the Blue Bunny no sugar added varieties. Yummy and a great reward for being good all day.
