I am back from my Thanksgiving trip and I did not gain any weight . We were touring and walking a lot so that probably saved me . This week I am definitely buying new pants . They have just gotten too loose to be comfortable .. In the LBYM spirit I gathered up expensive tops & dresses that I only wore once and sold them on ebay . They went like hotcakes and now I feel better about buying new .

OK, big effort now that DW has decided she needs to lose 3lbs as well.
On Monday I started journaling, WW style, and instant results with the lower intake (~1,500 cals per day). I hope I can get below target before Christmas.

Hang in there Dawg !!

Nice going, Alan and Moe. Mrs. Alan could hire herself out to be the weight loss fairy based on your result, Alan!

I think that it is well established that when spouses combine to lose weight together their chances of success are greatly increased.

Besides, she carries a big whip ;)

Especially if the spouse that wants to lose does the cooking !:)

OK, I'm back after a while spent elsewhere (taking night classes at the city college for kicks, but boy it kept me busy and off the forums!).

Down to 202 lbs (or was at my last weigh-in three weeks ago). This means I've lost 50 lbs in the past year! Hooray!

Upside: I've lost 50 lbs!
Downside: I'm starting on my second set of transitional wardrobe clothes because I still have a ways to go.
Other downside: I'm getting really into baking.

Now for translating weight lost into weight kept off -- and more weight lost.

Onward we go!

Good luck Urchina, sounds like you have your work cut out to lose weight while at the same time starting to cook more. But you've done great this last year, so you know that you can do it :flowers:

Congratulations on the weight loss !

Fifty pounds down is amazing, Urchina! Congratulations on your accomplishment. Please send any excess home baked goods to my house :) .

I'm excited to have started the brand new Weight Watchers Points Plus plan on Thursday and will report week 1 results next week as I begin my second and final 25 lb. journey that will put me in the middle of the target range.

Dang, I don't need to do a weigh-in. I'm 5'11" and 185lbs. But I do need to make sure I don't have to take cholesterol raising medications (good cholesterol is too low @ 33 and it shouldn't be less than 40 ... everything else is good to go). I've been eating more wheat germ in my salads and more fish (i.e. Salmon). I just can't take the fish oil pills, they smell horrible if I burp, not to mention they bother my stomach a little.
Any ideas on some other good baking tips to help out?

First time I've been in range since June 2, which was right before the 10 week trip to England. DW's 5 day diet the week before dropped 3lb so it is very nice to see another pound come off this week.

Welcome to the Wednesday Weigh-In thread :flowers:

One of the best ways to improve good cholesterol is by exercise (probably not what you wanted to hear :) ).

Your weight is at the top end for your height - your BMI is 25.8 so a few pounds off to get below 180 could also help with the good cholesterol. (BMI target <25 )

Here are 10 tips to boosting good choleresterol. We have had good success with switching to soy milk for our morning cereal instead of milk plus exercise and weight loss.

I'm sure there will be others who can offer some good baking tips.

Very nice, Alan,

and I hope Mrs. Alan was as successful as you were on her 5 day diet!

My good cholesterol was 40 a few years back. After low-carbing it is now 69. I recommend macadamia nuts and roasted pecans with butter.

Work that bike, Freebird!

The exercise bike is so much more productive that the HealthRider I bought from a mall ($500!!! absolutely insane--I totally fell for the infomercials) many years ago--all you did was pull back on the bar so you would stand up with your feet on the "pedals" (which were immobile--they didn't pedal or move at all), and then sit back down. Over and over and over. It still makes me laugh even though we don't have it anymore:

So now I have results from the first week of the new and improved Weight Watchers Points Plus Plan and a big Yay for me. Starting second and final 25 lb. loss goal:

12/9/10, week 1: -2 lbs.

The new plan doesn't count points for any fresh fruit or most vegetables. The formula assigns lower point values for protein, too. It looks like it is about 1100 to 1300 calories a day plus the fruit/vegetable calories. Activity is separate.

Interestingly points for swimming went down while points for high intensity went up, compared to the old plan. I found a gym that I really like a couple of weeks ago and have been going there pretty consistently so far.

If we can all hang on through the end of the year we'll be a step ahead come January.
