Medicare signup questions for cancer and heart attack survivors
My DB will be turning 65 in July and is starting to look into Medicare signup. His wife (66) has fought the cancer battle (uterine) for the past several years and was recently given a great report showing all 4 tumors dissolved. She'll be on a chemo maintenance plan for probably the next year. This is the 2nd time her cancer has gone into remission.
DB is a heart attack survivor (open heart quad bypass) and has other various aches and pains. He currently takes LOTS of meds.
Currently, DB has very good employer health insurance so they never had to worry about the high cost of chemo treatments and prescriptions. Now that he's 65 and considering retirement, he's concerned if Medicare will cover the cost of future chemo treatments and some of their expensive meds.
- Does anyone have experience with Medicare and choosing the right plans for someone dealing with cancer and may need chemo and other treatments?
- Is there a "best" plan for a couple taking several expensive meds?
- Is there a recommended website for Medicare information that might be helpful for DB?
- Did anyone use an 'Assister' to help with Medicare signup and were they helpful?
Thank you.
