New ACA Exchange Co-op's
On the list of exchange insurance companies here in Nevada, is something called the Nevada Health Co-op. I was curious about what this was, so I started Googleing (not a word I know) Come to find out that it is something intended to be a second best replacement for a public option, but on a state level.
It is non profit, and 22 states have one. They were supposed to receive a total of 6 billion to get them off the ground, but legislators were able to cut off part of their legs so to speak, (insurance companies want to crush them) and prevent the remaining money from going out, so only 3.2 billion made it to these new exchanges.
Some health co-ops have proven very successful, but it is a difficult to get them up and running. Especially with the ACA rules that forbid any of the funding to go into marketing. It makes getting the word out on these plans very difficult. I didn't know anything about this.
Do any of you have any knowledge of them?
