Ongoing Health Insurance Fun!

So ... I was one of the lucky ones who was able to successfully work through the ACA Website to purchase coverage --- made it thru in mid-October.

Since then, while the coverage is in place and has been used, getting through the "stuff" has been a royal pain.

Made the first payment in October (for January coverage) and all was great.

Late January, still had not received a bill, called BCBS and was told that they were "running behind" but that the billing should be received by month's end.

February 1st - still nothing - and their website showed due for February but $0.00 amount due. So, I went ahead and paid the premium as a "Pay Other Amount". Waited a couple days and checked my bank account and, sure enough, the amount had been debited. However, the website still showed me due for February.

Called their billing area on February 5th and they verified payment had been received and that I was good to go.

On February 18 I receive a letter from BCBS letting me know that my payment was delinquent .... so, once again, I called their billing area who informed me that I was paid, they didn't know why I received the letter but to ignore it.

Yesterday, after not having received a March billing yet, I checked the website and, again, it shows $0.00 due but does show me paid through February and due for March. So, once again, I paid the premium by using "Pay other amount."

Today, I received an automated call from BCBS letting me know that my payment for February had not yet been received and that it needed to be paid immediately to avoid cancellation. (Of course, it also said that if I've already made the payment, to ignore the call).

Just called BCBS again .... was on hold for 27 minutes .... only to be told "You're paid in full for February, but you were already in the queue for the call since your payment was not received by the date due."

When I questioned when they showed receiving it, I was told "February 18th." (It had been debited from my checking on February 1st).

So .... the answer when I questioned was "I'm sorry. Our processing department has been running behind in posting payments and that was the reason your payment is reflecting as being late."

And the odyssey continues ...........
