Senolytics anyone?

I've never come across this term before until I read the article below:

https://www.theguardian.com/science/...-end-of-ageing

It describes research into new drugs that could help people live healthier lives for much longer than they do now. It's still in its very early stages at the moment but the article suggests that they might have something in 5-12 years time.

To me this brings up all sorts of issues. Just off the top of my head:

  • How would the planet/environment cope with a whole bunch more healthy people running around?
  • Presumably it would cause the retirement age for SS and Medicare to rise The way they are funded right now can't support a sudden steep rise in life expectancy.
  • Would most people work longer, expecting to retire later and still be healthy or just retire and have a longer, healthier retirement?
  • Would you need a bigger stash to retire on? While health care costs would go down, your money would need to last longer and you'd be more active so spend more.
  • Would it lead to less expensive health insurance? Or would the cost of the drug be prohibitively expensive.
  • What industries would it impact negatively and which positively? For example - companies that have issued annuities could be very badly affected whereas it would be a boon for life insurance companies.
