Now that my Colonoscopy is behind me, I can eat again. As I recalled from about 6 years ago, the day prior to was THE worst day of the process. The actual poop-shute scope was a breeze. The doc stole a couple of my favorite polyps that I had been cultivating for the last 6 years, but I said he could keep them.

My big feed after the "procedure"? Subway 12 inch roastbeef and swiss with every one of the veggies represented...mmmmmm.

Sorry, you're still not makin' me look forward to it. Or backward. Or whatever perspective we end up having to view it from.

That raises an interesting question, though. As long as you're up on the racks having the exhaust system checked out, I wonder what other maintenance should be scheduled? Digital rectal exam? Vasectomy? With a long fasting time you could ask for a complete cholesterol profile (not that it's necessary, it just happens to meet the conditions) and maybe a glucose-tolerance test? Anything else?

Sure, Upper GI exam. Maybe have the probes meet up in the middle to be sure the whole plumbing is clear.

The schuduled procedure was quite enough for an afternoon, thank you very much. Gave me an appreciation (sorta) of what a woman must have to go thru annually when she visits the Gyno-man, of course without all of that not-eating stuff.

Problem is that each of these is usually done by a specialist and the doc doing the scope probably doesn't do the other things. DRE and vasectomy = urologist. Lab work would probably be easy but does the gastro guy doing the scope have a lab tech to take the blood?

I did that once. Not that both were done at the exact same time, but they were a couple of hours apart so I didn't have to do the starvation/cleanout process twice, which of course is the worst part.

My brother had both Upper GI and Colonoscopy done at the same time a few years ago. This was in Australia and he lived in the boonies so since it was a 3 hr drive to civilization they did both at once. Turned out he had an ulcerated esophagus and diverticulitis.

I too had the colonoscoy 3 years ago. For me what was worse wasn´t the fasting but the terrible amount of the obnoxious liquid I had to drink. And the constant shuttle to the toilet....
And, let´s not forget it-my fear of having something awful....

You got to shuttle back and forth to the bathroom....heck once everything started (

) I had to just sit there for two plus hours! What a fun night!

But if you have the history, it is best that you get it done and keep up with the follow-ups.
