Two Anniversaries

Today is the 12th anniversary of my first kidney/pancreas transplant. It literally saved my life. I had life threatening high blood pressure and was described as "Walking death" by my internist of 20 years. My new kidney is still as happy as a clam. My first pancreas lasted for 8.5 years and then, much to my surprise but not my doctors', gave up the ghost.

My other "anniversary" was 4-06-08, six months on my second pancreas, which I got on Oct 6th, 2007.

My A1C was 4.2, fasting blood glucose 84, which is fantastic for me as a "former" diabetic. I am living happily on extended time that I had no right to expect.

I got new fleece-lined slippers to celebrate.

Congratulations Mike, and thanks for posting. Maybe it will cause some of our political and "can you believe this cr@p!" ranters to pause and take stock of what's really important.

Mike, how wonderful! And I know how sometimes having to take all the medication can be a drag, you are clearly a compliant patient!

My mom is a kidney transplant recipient (actually of 2 kidneys) that were transplanted 6 years ago. We just had a big scare as her body began rejecting--massive doses of steroids got her back on track. And MUCH more compliant.

Congrats and thanks for sharing! Enjoy those fuzzy slippers!

That's sweet news! I think you deserve at least two pairs of slippers.
