VA Medical Care Benefits
I recently learned that the VA no longer considers your Assets when you apply for medical benefits. As of March 15th, they only consider your income.
For me, because I control my income through monthly Roth IRA conversions to qualify for the ACA benefit, it was easy to adjust down a little to qualify for VA Priority Group 5, which provides veterans with free comprehensive medical care. Prior to the elimination of the "Asset" test, I was in Priority Group 8g, no benefits, because of the value of my early retirement savings and investments.
So, for those who served and can now qualify based on taxable income alone, Veterans Medical benefits might be of assistance to your early retirement security.
I should be able to continue to qualify financially until age 70. After that, social security and yearly RMD's will disqualify me. I'll still signup for Medicare at 65 but continue to use the VA until then.
