I had a little fun today

I was doing my periodic bond MF shares updates at my M* portfolio tracker. Yawn.
I logged onto my TDA online account and was doing the updates. I discovered about $850 in a sweep account, earning a paltry 0.25% (or was it 0.025%) in a money market account. I had forgotten it was in there, to be honest.

dh2b had mentioned a stock his late father had crowed about for many years. We have no idea when he bought it and if he sold it. But it was something that dh2b wanted to look into someday. So I figured what the heck, and did some research on CELG.

Facts: I never buy individual stocks. I don't day trade. I am boring.

But something about dh2b's interest in it (like father, like son kinda thing) and that sweep account interest rate came together.
I...gulp...executed an individual stock order at TDA.
For a $9 trade fee, I bought exactly 18 shares of CELG, just for fun and because I felt like it.
You should have seen dh2b's face when I told him. You'd think we won the lottery or something.
We will entertain ourselves watching it go up and down and up and down...it's a biotech company.

I always have some fun money that I place on stocks . It's like gambling without the free drinks and as Uncle Mick would say it is the hormones or in my case lack of .

I thought you experienced individual stock holders might get a kick out of a greenhorn's rite of passage.
This buy was so out of character for me. I will gamble at the local casino if I am there for another reason (like a holiday party) or if on a cruise ship. I did turn $20 into $530 on a quarter slot machine in 2006 on a cruise ship. Pure chance. I cashed it right out and spent it on shore excursions. TY Carnival!
It will be more fun than playing the weekly $2 dh2b spends (wastes ) on MegaMillions and state lottery.

As long as you understand you could lose it all, and quickly, then have fun........

Oh absolutely.
I won't be buying any more. Neither will dh2b. This is just some cheap entertainment for us.

I knew too many engineers at the salt mines who day traded during the tech bubble and lost their keisters in short order. They continue to mine salt, I'm FIREd.

The money I found in my sweep account was like finding a wad of money on the road. Finders keepers, losers weepers.
