Watch out for the tax funny business if it's in a taxable account. Part of what they pay is always return of capital, so you need to sort and itemize and stuff keep better records. Go ask on the Yahoo message board; the folks there are very helpful. I owned EEQ, an Enbridge pipeline stock that paid in stock rather than dividends. It was simpler for me. I prefer KMR over KMP for the same reason. They both pay that way.

If you do decide to continue looking at this, get out the 10K and see what marginal % they are paying to the general partner. I think it is 50%. There are good pipeline MLPs with less onerous GP terms. Earlier in the year many of these GPs- not KMP's, but others-came public and shot up in price because they were such a good deal.

I own one-Nustar-NSH. I has appreciated markedly, but it has been weak over the last few months along with most of these MLP related entities. The CEO is still buying this security, and he has a large position built up. I believe that the undetrlyhing businesses are different- in the case of NuStar it is product transport rather than NG.

I found tax filing difficult only when I sold. Taxcut and Turbo handle MLPs well enough to make it easy during years you hold it.

I own KMR in an IRA. It's been a fantastic performer.
