Stock Picking ("Beat Boho") Contest

I reversed myself again and decided I have such advanced skill that I could trade under these conditions so next time I will.

Don't take this the wrong way, but you're adorable.

(P.S. to everyone else, the "Plonk!" was metaphorical.)

You certainly have very advanced skills in changing your mind and trading perspectives. :greetings10:

When I saw how much TIF dropped after I bought it I realized I'm still learning and I wasn't willing to risk delayed trading, then two hours later when I could have still sold it for a profit (exactly as I predicted above) I realized I was good enough.

Saw I had $100 left over somehow still in cash. Bought something randomly from my random assortment. HP, I think. Or ED. Something that had some letters strung together, anyway. ;)

Splitwdw, nice to see that are no longer stuck at 100K :).

Just for the short time it counts. I don't care for the position, I care for all I've learned in the time I've been on this forum. :flowers:

Yeah, finally got it straightened out thanks to you. Now I'm ready to lose money with the best of them!

Better late to the dance floor than sitting on the sidelines :).

It is interesting playing this with no risk.

I find myself watching some of these stocks bounce up and down, and the urge to flip them and time them gets very strong.

It is easy to see how daytrading can become very addictive, and just like gambling, how the players can lose lots of money trying to double up on the next stock that you are sure is going to run up a bit.

I suspect that I will lose interest in the active trading after awhile, and will set it to a more normal allocation, and then let it ride. Or leave it in some speculative stocks and watch it wither.

I think will be interesting when the contest ends to see the distribution of where in the position folks land compared to their trading/investing strategy. For example, will the top spot be someone who hit it big with a hot stock? Will the bottom be someone who lost big on a risky stock? Plus, where will the "dirty index followers" :) land?

Order in @ $12.87 / 7769 shares.

I knew a gal who's husband day traded away his 401k.

He admitted to a gambling problem, had himself banned from the casinos. Started day trading, no idea what they had but it ended up at 0.

Fun on paper.

I'm Sie, I made a typo on registering and if I try to change my profile I get an error page, so I guess I'm keeping it.

And NW-Bound, I do indeed have some MF's!

I shall try to remember Almost There as the audacious one who shorted tech stocks. It is a bit early yet. It is most likely he will lose badly before winning, and may run out of time before the contest ends in 1 year.

Better late to the dance floor than sitting on the sidelines :).

I love to watch from the sidelines. Never join a conga line in my life, or volunteer on stage for any demo.

My guess is the big winners will have one or two multi-baggers. The losers will be those who only bought a few stocks and one or more of them lost big. The indexers will be somewhere just above the middle (which is fine for me in real life). I'll probably be right about where I am, because I will forget to trade most of the time.

I'll just add that I'm in the contest but I'm registered as my first name, not my screen name. As someone else mentioned, one can't change one's username on the contest website.

I just registered and went 80% VTSAX and 20% VBTLX and won't trade the rest of the year. In other news, if you're having too much fun in your life, invite me to your next party and I'll tone things down for you. I'm boring as heck.

Well 100% VTSAX and doing absolutely nothing has me mid-pack and I expect to stay around there.

If you plan on staying in VTSAX for the entire contest, you'll be a great control subject for folks seeing if they are doing better or worse than the market in general. Of course, that is up to you.

Someone had to do it. Never had the nerve in real life to short, So here we go....... But now seems like a great time chart wise anyway...
Will be fun to watch either way...........

I have to admit that this is turning out to be more difficult than I thought. All of the best pictures of guys with their feet up on the desk have watermarks. I'm not sure what picture I'll choose when I win. I think this one will work but I'm not sure about the shoes.
